Hello to EVERYONE.
As Ross already knows, I'm new at this forum thing:eek:
I had a mechanical valve replacement on April 30/07. Had NO history of heart problems until my husband brought me to the ER on April 20 because I couldn't catch my breath. I was panting like a dog in heat.

Everything was said and done in 10 days. No time to think or get a second opinion.
For about 5 weeks after surgery, it was like I was in a different world. "The Shock Syndrome" as I call it, hit me, HARD! To come to terms on what I had been through, I found this web site. All of your stories, compassion, understanding and the love you all share got me through my highs and lows of recovering from this life changing experience.

My story could be much longer, but for now I would just like to Thanks for being there.......or should I say here.

I'm still trying to learn all of your medical abbreviations. Maybe someone could help me out with some of them?

Freddie

Welcome

Welcome

Hi Freddie,
This forum is great. I'm somewhat new here too. I joined in Feb. If you pop into the forums a few times you'll get the lingo. AVR-aortic valve replacement, MVR-mitral valve replacement, and OHS open heart surgery. Those are just a few. There are all kinds very experienced people here, from everywhere. Glad you found this and happy that you are doing well! Look forward to future posts from you:)

Thanks Cherban,
could you tell me what do the different colors of envelopes mean? There's blue and orange, some are open, some are closed with arrows. What does this all mean and where on this site can I find the information?
Freddie

Hi Freddie......canadian, eh? (me too):)

Welcome to the group, it is a great place, lots of smart people!

I'll give you a couple more abbreviations:
HR heart rate
BP Blood pressure
BB beta blocker meds for BP (metoprolol, toprol, etc.)

Browse around the messages and you will pick up alot, don't be shy.

Welcome Freddie. Wow - that was all of a sudden! No wonder you were in shock after!

Be sure to read the Stickies in the Anticoagulation forum

Glad you found us!

At the bottom of the forums page is a key to what the symbols mean. I don' think anyone pays attention to them anyhow, but the meanings can be found there. Oh heck, I'll make it easy. Here is a picture of the key:Click on it to enlarge it.

Welcome to the VR Community, Freddie. Glad you found us. It took me awhile to get the lingo, too. I don't post much to the internet so between the heart related abbreviations and the internet conversation slang, there were time I had no idea what was being talked about. :p

Best wishes.
