Billy,

Reminds me of the exit interview I had at the hospital. The patient care representative asked me if I'd recommend the hospital to a friend. I told her I wouldn't recommend the procedure to anyone (with a wink, which I think she missed) and she got a little offended. I clarified that I would recommend the hospital to anyone who had to have the procedure.

Maybe if I refer enough "friends" I'll get offered a second surgery at half price?

Tell ya what I'm gonna do......

If it were up to me, hey, I'd sell you these valves right now. But, my manager is kind of a pain and I don't think he'll go for it. Really, I'm on your side, and I want you to leave here tonight with a coupla shiny valves - just think how jealous your neighbor is gonna be when he hears that ticking coming from your chest...it'll drive him crazy. The ticking? Oh, well, they all do that.

So, is that your best offer? OK, well, let me run this by the boss. I think he'll probably want another 50K or so - like I said, he's kind of hard-nosed. Just the way he is.

[later]

Congratulations! Wow, those new valves are YOU! That didn't hurt too much now, did it???

Oh.

With this wierd world..there may just be some SICKO relative out there that just want their relative's valves and pacemakers.to sell.       My Mother-in-law was cremated and wondered what her pacemaker did? Her ashes were put in an urn and we buried her in plot.. Now, I'm getting sicko.:( :( :( :( :( Bonnie

HaHa-

When Joe was having one of his numerous PATs. The nurse was very diligent and earnestly asked him if he would like to be an organ donor. He beamed, "absolutely ! I would love to be a heart donor". She bought it hook line and sinker and started filling out a form, until we started laughing. Who would ever want that heart, it's mostly hardware and scars. To be honest, I can't think of too many things he could donate. Maybe his ears.

But you know what, I bet there is a market somewhere for used pacemakers, valves etc.

Watch out for the MEs. Might have post mortem explanting on the mind.

Is that too ghoulish???:D :D :D

LOL!

This reminds me of a T G Shepherd song... (not sure of all of the words, so bear with me...it's been a while since I've heard it...LOL)

"1 Owner Heart"

1st verse:
Put an ad in the paper today, low mileage heart, must move right away, pick up the phone, I hear somebody say, she say, hey does your heart still run like it should? I said yes, but since she left me it don't do me no good.

Chorus:
I got a, 1 owner heart, she only drove me crazy on Sunday, guaranteed to start, this 1 owner heart

[can't remember 2nd verse]

later....
she said, hey, I need to see some papers on you, I said the title is clear, if something happens, she said, what will I do? Well, I'll be right here...with my... [chorus]

*sighs*

I need to get my old CDs out again sometime soon ;).

Billy - is this e-bay craze as big in Ireland as it is here.

By our office I noticed a new business going in. It is designed for people wanting to sell something on e-bay, just bring it in and they will sell it for you!

I bet we could have fun with "confessions of things bought on e-bay? I bet we would have some funny stories to share...

For sale:

One, lightly used, model 33M-101 carbon composite valve. In excellent condition. Low milage, runs great. $400,000 or best offer. Serious inquiries only please. For more information, see below:

SJM® Masters Series Mechanical Heart Valve

Approved for Use: United States & International
This device is approved for use in the United States and internationally.
The SJM Masters Series Mechanical Heart Valve leaves the original design of the St. Jude Medical® mechanical heart valve intact, while adding rotatability, improved radiopacity, and extra suture markers (three on the aortic valve and four on the mitral valve) on the sewing cuff.
Features such as a controlled torque rotation mechanism allow for easy intraoperative adjustment. In the aortic position, the pivot guards can be rotated toward subannular obstructions to push them away from the leaflets. In the mitral position, leaflets can be rotated away from obstructions.

For easy patient follow-up, the valve's rotation mechanism is magnetic resonance imaging-compatible and radiopaque to provide enhanced visualization on flat chest x-ray and during cinefluoroscopy.

Available with the HP series cuff (expanded cuff versions are optional) for aortic placement in 17 to 27 mm sizes, and in standard and expanded polyester or PTFE cuff versions for mitral (19 to 37 mm sizes) and aortic (19 to 31 mm sizes) placement.

I should point out though, I really don't know what "version" of the St Jude's Valve I have... That is just the first description I found on their website. =)

The "33M-101" part is real though, that's what my ID card says. =)

Only eBay story I have is my leather jacket.

$200+ biker jacket that I got for about $70.

It makes me very happy. =)

Crazy but true!

Crazy but true!

Good friend of mine is a vet. Recall mention that used 'human' pacers are at times donated to vetranarian practies for use in Fido:eek:

Never did find out what something like that would cost.

Bethanne, we have a couple of those businesses that sell your stuff on e-Bay in our area. It doesn't sound like such a bad idea, actually. Of course you only get a small cut of what they sell it for (if they sell it) but they do all the scut work of posting it, sending it to the buyer, etc., etc. I was thinking of maybe taking in what's left of my father's stamp collection that I found when I was going through his stuff. He sold off most of the "good" stuff himself, & I haven't a clue as to the value of what's left. I have tried to go on e-Bay myself and I'm so stupid, I can't figure out how to negotiate the site, just as well, I do not need another online addiction.
