No one in my family has been tested. This hasn't even been mentioned. My son, who is a hypocondriac, has often asked his GP to listen to his chest and to his heart - no murmur has been heard so far (he's 27) so that is a good sign. My murmur from BAV wasn't heard until I was 25. When docs listened to my chest when I was younger there was no murmur. I didn't need AVR until I was 60 so I wonder about screening in younger people unless they have symptoms.

It's generally not the things we worry about that get us. My Mom was schizophrenic, and I spent a fair amount of time worrying about schizophrenia before I hit 30 (after which a person is very unlikely to develop it). My Mom worried about her own stuff but I'm sure of all the things she worried about, dying suddenly in her car one lazy Tuesday afternoon from a brain aneurysm she never even knew she had was not one of them. And I never once considered the possibility of acquiring two different types of heart disease and a severe hormone imbalance by my early 40s.

If we all just worried about EVERYTHING, none of us would ever have anything bad happen to us -- eh?
