I hope this will help. For the past nine years Al's range has been 3.0 to 4.0. He has had no problems with this range and has never done more than decrease his Coumadin dose 5% per week, except for the time when his INR was above 10.0...and he survived that!

My range is 2.0 to 3.0. Not too long ago, my INR showed 6.0. That certainly caught my attention. I took 1/2 does for two days and ate a great spinach salad...a real big one. Tested 5 days out and all was back to normal.

I don't know why these anominalies happen. but I do know that they can be handled. This is not brain surgery. Most of the INR irregularities can be solved easily by either cutting back on Coumadin or increasing the dose.

Take it easy and you will be fine. It's just another day in paradise!!!!!

Just to repeat my PM of this afternoon:
I agree that you may want to lower your INR a bit because I know that you have been bruising.

You were taking 6mg daily, which is 42mg per week.

To decrease by 10% would be about 4mg per week....a new total of 38 mg for this week.

So I am suggesting take 3mg tonight, 5mg Friday, then 6mg sat, sun, mon, tues, wed.
3+5+6+6+6+6+6=38mg

Then next week see where you are at and go from there. :)

Exactly what I would do too! I's concur.

Okay, doeky gang that's what I'll do.

Please don't think I was questioning Bina's method. I just thought with 6mg for 5 days straight what difference would it make?

The Main Point is to use 1/2 dose the first night.
Whether you go with all 6's or 5.6.6.6.6.6 after that is a 'fine tweek' that can wait until after your next test. That last 1 mg difference isn't going to sway you much whichever way you go. The 1/2 dose should get you back within range (or very close) and that is the important thing.

Yes, Freddie's doctor wants results fast, so we will make sure that it is done the safe way.
Don't worry Freddie, I would not be insulted if you chose another dosing. I can only offer what I would do for myself. :)

Doesn't take much for me Ross.
Just by you calling me "hon" sent goose bumps.

OMG................I think I just Highjacked my own thread LOL

I wish I had that affect on you girls, but alas, I'm just a fat ugly little troll with a hose in his nose. How sexy can that be?

Book or no book Ross, your just fine the way you are. Including the little devil that hides within you.

So, back to the topic at hand; okay for argument sake - if I was to decrease 15% and take only 5mg everyday until next Thursday, do you think I'd be in the range of 2.5 to 3.0? I think that's the sweet spot for my doctor.

Topic at hand? Umm, I'm not allowed to do that.

Oh, you mean't your topic. Your INR will fall too low. 15% is too much of a decrease for 3.8. Personally, I'd only reduce 5%, but it seems you 've been trending upwards which would make me think 10%, but no more.

Ross, behave yourself or I'm going down to Ohio.

The INR of 3.8 was the OLD reading from last time.

This week we are advising on the INR of 4.3 which needs a reduction of 10%

You all quit fooling around and get some sleep...... naughty children. ;)
