Katie developed heparin-induced thrombocytopenia, but this is probably not the case with Adam. I repeat, this is probably not the case with Adam, especially if your docs are not too concerned. Is Adam still on heparin or have any active IV lines that they are still flushing with heparin? Is his platelet count still continuing to drop? IF so to both of these, then he MAY have developed antibodies to heparin. The only reason I mention it is because it happened to us and doctors do not routinely check for this in children.
If no to those questions, it is probably just due to the length of the surgery and how much heparin he had in his system. Have they given him any more platelets or blood?
Well, I do hope this little bump in the road is just that. The old-timers on here know why I don't like to mention the "H" word before it is official because I always feel like I jinx it....................sigh! Now, I sure wish that we had come up and seen you guys today, but I thought you would be settling in at H. Listen don't hesitate to call. We are tied up tomorrow with my dad, but we plan on visiting you guys early next week, wherever you are, and hopefully it will be at H. Many hugs. Janet
