Ok, getting too far fetched I know...

Why does the name HAVE to start with the letter O anyways?

Oliver - Oleo - Odie - Opie - Osee - Osco - Orie

Just a few. I'll try to think of some more. Oh, I forgot, it's a little girl.

Ophra - Olymphia - Olive - Oldiva - Osie -

Whoops, forgot two:

Oogha-chaga oogha-oogha! Oogha-chaga oogha-oogha! Oogha-chaga oogha-oogha!

Just don't name him, Osso Bucco... Somebody might eat the dog...

Harpoon asked why the puppy's name has to start with the letter O. Each litter of guide dog puppies is assigned a letter (litter letter). Why? Tradition. It also helps track the puppies better. The school for which we are raising lets us choose the name. We send a list of our choices for a name to the school and then they choose from our list. It is part of the fun of getting a new young puppy -- thinking about names. It cannot be a name of current guide dog puppy or of a working guide for that school.

Another guide dog school names the puppies and sticking with the litter letter. Does that make sense?

I agree it is fun to find a name. I came up with some of my favourite names for a bitch.

Orla from latin meaning the golden woman
Oriel old french meaning golden angel of destiny
Ophira greek meaning gold
All those names seem short enough to call a dog.
Let us know what your little beast will be called.

My neighbor has had several dogs with interesting names, like Pickles, Odd-ball, and Octane. I rather like Orchid, Oyster, and Outrageous. Some other "O" words that come to mind are: October, Owl, Oregon, Omega, Oasis, Obstacle, Oneida, Okra, Orange, and Outstanding. Have you thought about Oprah? Did you know that Oprah was supposed to be named after Orpha in the Bible? Somehow, it was misspelled on her birth certificate.
Regards,
Blanche
