Supposedly no, but Visiting Nurse Service will come to change the dressing every two days. I imagine they'll work with him a bit.

I have been away for a couple of days dealing with my own travesties here in NH and Maine, but have been keeping up on the posts while I was away, and I figured I would check in after the 4 hour drive back. I am really thrilled for all of you Ross, and I hope and pray that Chris is getting back to his old self ASAP!! I am thrilled for yall!!! Harrybaby

Glad t hear the good news Ross.....my opinion is if he has the choice to be in rehab for a couple of weeks to take it. I know everyone wants to go home, but they have eveything that is needed at the centers and if there is any emergency, they individual gets care faster. Just a comment. Still praying for Chris

The thing is, there really isn't anything rehab can do for him that he cannot do himself. This isn't over by a long shot, but this is the first positive steps in the right direction since the accident occurred. Yes, we may begin the happy dance! He still has more surgeries, more pain, and such to endure, but at least now we know for sure that he'll be keeping his foot! Not a bad deal really. I still have my son alive and basically whole, even if he does look like a skinned rat from all angles in front view. I can live with a skinned rat.

That is certainly a huge emotional hurdle to have leaped and more than enough inspiration for a happy dance! (If you listen very closely to the winds from the northwest you'll hear a big sigh of relief! )

Just a thought - will Chris make any more progress in a formal rehab setting do you think? considering that he may work harder/ more effectively at the behest of strangers rather than mom/ dad and left to his own devices.

I only say this reflecting on a patient in my own family.... and his lack of cooperation with us.

In ways, yes, but bear in mind, he only has one weight bearing foot and virtually every muscle in his arms and thighs and abdomen are bandaged and pretty much useless right now. They've taken skin and muscle from all these areas, so rehab would be very very limited. So limited in fact, that just common movement would be enough rehab. He can do that himself.

I understand. I hope that didn't seem insensitive - My hubby was just more cooperative with strangers than with us as a patient.

Your not being insensitive at all, just honest and true. Even I think the discipline dished out from someone other then us would be better, as he does not work for mom or dad like he would for someone else, but I have to cut him some slack here, at least for a while. I will not wait on him hand and foot like he has some nurses doing. If he can get out of bed, then he can do many things on his own, like walk his own urinal to the bathroom and empty it, get his own water etc.

Ross i am glad he will be home soon (is he definately going to your home?) I think it will be both harder and easier for you and Lyn, but probably the easier will out weigh the hard. just not having to worry about him being alone, trying to get rides and going to sit for hours at the hospital must not be the best for you so looking forward to hearing you can rest alittle too, Lyn

You and Lyn are doing the best thing for him Ross.....This will keep him from giving up....and I know this all too well myself as there are days that I am in soooooo much pain that I just want to lay down and die.....but Chris and I need to keep fighting, and for Chris, this I think would be the ultimate present to his parents, and the utimate show of love to his fiance, and certainly the most ultimate memorial for his mother in law....Keep him fighting Ross....Keep him fighting....and when you get the chance, please give him a hug for me. Harrybaby

Thank you so much for sharing the good news that Chris will keep his foot. Any other negatives must just not be as serious right now knowing the foot is healing.
