It seems he's been admitted with fluid around his heart. He was having troubles taking a deep breath and having some chest pain. Lord I hope this isn't a genetic thing with my kids. I've gone through enough for everyone in the family. He didn't want me to worry so he didn't bother calling me till now. I hate to tell him, I'm still worried. I'm going to call the nurses station shortly and see if they'll tell me anything. Knowing them the way I do, they won't.

My day is starting off on the wrong foot, how is your day going?

Man, didn't you tell him that's not allowed! :( Sorry to hear that he is also having trouble - I agree that you have had more than enough trouble (and give more than enough trouble =) for your entire family. I will keep him in my prayers. Keep us posted.

Melissa

Can't believe it, that would be my worst nightmare.

How old is your son? I have a 15 year old son and a 10 year old daughter. They are both deathly afraid of doctors, dentists, needles, blood, etc... My son once tried to jump out of the car when I was taking him to the doctor for a physical, he knew he needed a shot.

Definitely hoping this turns out to be something minor.

Hi Ross,

I am so sorry he is having problems but glad that he is smart enough to go where he is getting help. When it comes to our kids everything seems different. I offer no advice but I will definitely pray starting right now.

Remember Ross, we are here for you just like you always are for us.

Oh Ross,

I am so sorry to hear that. But he's where they can give him the best help, and you will be following his progress closely, I'm sure.

He will be in my thoughts and prayers and you and the family also.

God Bless, and please let us know how things progress.

I just talked with his nurse. They believe it's a viral infection that went unchecked, so they've had him on I.V. antibiotics until just now. They took it out and have started oral instead. They were giving him an EKG when I called. I told his nurse of my past history and to make sure the Doctor is aware of it. I'm hoping he'll order an echo to check the valve functions out while he's in there.

The thing that really scares me with him is that he has no insurance. I want to be sure he's getting the care he needs and not kicked out on the street before this resolves itself. I've been on him since day one to get on his companies health plan and his answer, "But dad I never get sick" Bet you know what I told him too!

Rob he just turned 23 in July.

Please! Have your son thouroughly checked!

Hi Ross,

I just read where your son found out he had a viral infection around his heart, well, let me tell you, I finally found out from my cardiologist that in addition to the valve issues, I have Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy and CHF. I asked him what could have caused this, and one of the causes was a viral infection (of which I have had many). I don't mean to scare you, or your son, I just wanted to give you and yours a heads up so by the grace of god, he won't get what I have now...Please let me know how he makes out,,, Take care, and I hope all goes well...Harrybaby666:D :D :D

Thanks Harry, that thought was the first thing to hit my mind. You can bet I'm going to be riding their tails on this.

Hi Ross,

That's not the way the day is supposed to Start!

I just read your update on the issue with your son, sounds like maybe there 's a bit of a silver lining there. Hopefully he will get a thorough exam and provide you all with peace of mind.

Where is he located? Did he make it to TN?

I'll be thinking positive thoughts for you and your family.

Rob

Rob this is my oldest son Jeremiah and he's still here in Canton, OH. Chris is my youngest which is the one that wanted to go to Nashville. He bought himself a car and is in "Responsibility for payment" mode on it. He still want's to go to TN, but it's going to have to wait until his new toy is payed off. About another year and half.

Ross, forgot to ask....does he have a fever? I mentioned to Ross that Jean from MN recently went to the ER with similar symptoms.

Apparently not which is what has me wondering. I know when my lung disease fires up, I run a low grade fever then the fluid starts building, but the nurse didn't say anything about a fever.

Hey Ross,
Sorry to hear about your son, but he is where he should be right now. I hope everything turns out OK. You and your family are in my prayers and throughs.

That's a good sign Ross. I just read your comment about no insurance coverage. He might want to forgo an echo if it can be helped until coverage is in place. If they find something now...at point of coverage it would be considered preexisting and they may not cover him.

Ross,
I am so sorry to hear about your son. When it is our kids, it is a whole different ball game for us parents. We are much more aggressive with wanting answers than we are with ourselves. Getting definitive answers can't come soon enough. I pray that everything goes well for him and that there will be no long lasting effects. Please keep us informed.

Take Care!
Gail

Thank you everyone for your continued thoughts and prayers. I'll be weathering out this storm and see where it leads.

Hi Ross, Sorry to hear about your son. I agree , hope they do an echo too. It is scary when your kids are sick especially when its the heart! Hope you have passed along to doctor your history, sometimes that will sway their decision about tests. Keep us posted, I am sure they will get things under control. My thoughts are with you. HFK
