I can't wait! Tomorrow they're coming to set me up with my very first CPAP machine. After the second sleep study, Titration test, They are coming to set me up with my own "Borg" looking mask and CPAP unit. Even with dealing with all the wires in the sleep lab and the new Mask, I got my first really good nites sleep in a very long time. Tomorrow I'll have my own and get to try it out without all the other wires attached.:D

Johnny:

You should notice a big difference in how you feel in a short time. I know you're excited about getting your machine.

My husband has had a CPAP for 6+ years. We buy white vinegar by the case (Sam's or Costo) for cleaning the mask or hose (dunno which) and because the CPAP can dry out the nasal passages, he uses Ocean Premium Saline Nasal Spray (he buys it at Costco, 3/maybe $4).

I suspected my husband had sleep apnea after hearing a friend's snoring when she & i shared a hotel room one weekend, and then she told me that she had been diagnosed with sleep apnea.
When John had his sleep study, they stopped it after just a couple of hours the first night. He didn't go back the 2nd night. The diagnosis was that obvious!
I noticed a big change within less than a week -- he had more energy during the day, didn't have headaches after awakening in the morning, didn't toss & turn during the night as much. He later told me he had almost fallen asleep while driving to work one day.

Pre-op, I remember being asked repeatedly if I had sleep apnea. I've seen it but don't remember what the connection of sleep apnea with heart problems is.

Give us an update after you've been on your machine for a couple of weeks!

I have been on mine for a little over 3 years and what a relief it makes. I no longer feel wiped out during the day, and (on my normal sleep nights) I get a great nights sleep. Alot of people find it annoying though, but I have had no problem adapting to it, and believe it or not, I look forward to putting it on when I go to sleep, just for the added O2. Best of luck and relief, Harrybaby:D :D :D :D

Remember those days, way back when, when we'd get all excited over a new car, or great vacation. Now it's C-Pap machines.:D

My BIL just got one a few months ago. He started out with the mask that just went around his nose and found it too uncomfortable. Now he has the one that covers his mouth too.

Good luck with it!

Good luck with your new CPAP!

Hopefully the mask will fit correctly right off the bat, but if it doesn't don't get discouraged. You may need to try several different types before you find one that is the best (comfortable and minimal leakage) for you.

I've been using a CPAP for several years now....I use it 100% of the time I am asleep and it definitely makes me feel better. But it took me a long time to get to that point! And I have aquired quite a collection of masks!

Happy sleeping.
