Well, the big day is Monday, Sept. 19, at Loma Linda Hospital here in SoCal. Just wanted to say that this site has been an invaluable source of information and inspiration. Although I'm not a big contributor, I've been reading your posts almost everyday since I discovered this site and have learned a lot. And this knowledge has done a lot to ease some of my anxieties. So, a very sincere thanks to all of you and I'll be talking to you again soon.

Joe thinking of you as you wait these last couple days and praying fro a very uneventful surgery.

Best wishes to you, Joe. Looking forward to hearing from you on the other side.

I'm sure you're looking forward to getting back on your bikes, like I was. Be sure to let your sternum heal before you expose yourself to risk of crash; low risk pavement riding to start, off-road riding later...and no riding before you get the OK from your doctor.

You may feel pretty weak for your first few months on the bike. It took me about 7-8 months before I felt the performance effects of the surgery were mostly behind me. Just take your time - you will get better.

Cheers

Best wishes, Joe. We're sure you will do fine and look forward to your uneventful recovery and future posts.

Joe - you go to surgery with many of us thinking of you and sending our good wishes and prayers. We hope someone can let us hear how it all goes. We'll be here when you get back, to hear your war stories. There will probly be a couple. Watch out for the truck and don't sneeze for six months. GODSPEED!

Good luck! The roads and trails will still be there when you're better. In the meantime, we'll keep em warm for you!

Looking forward to hearing from you post-op, Joe!

Looking forward to hearing from you post-op, Joe!

Mitral valve repair is a pretty miraculous procedure! Sometimes I feel like the surgery really did put me into a superhero suit with a big red M on my chest. I cannot BELIEVE how much better I feel.

Thoughts are with you.

I feel the same way. I had surgery on June 6th and I just cant believe how much better I feel now. I went back to work on Sept 6th, got a job, yeah!!!
No more shortness of breath, no more weird beating heart, chest pains from the incision are minimal. Life is definitely on the upswing. Still having problems believing that I have a new heart that is gonna last me the rest of my life.

Best of luck to you!

Best of luck to you!

I am sure all will go well! And you can look forward to many more bike rides.
