hi everyone! MORE questions: anyone else have a crummy appetite-or is it just me? i know i need proper nutrition for healing, but NOTHING sounds or tastes good !!!!! also-i can't seem to keep my incisions dry. nurse practitioner at surgeons gave me betadine swabs to dry them up-they just keep "weeping" i am watching my temp very closely,as i am diabetic-so far so good. she thinks the sutures underneath the skin are irritating my pale redhead skin....:rolleyes:i am so frustrated with all this-sometimes -i swear my sternum is "out of joint" cuz it hurts so bad....still using percocet and alternating with vicodin.like i don't have ENOUGH-my kidneys are messed up-seeing a kidney specialist tomorrow....thanks for letting me vent! trish

Sorry things are so hard right now....they will get better:).....my appetite was bad for about two weeks.....my incision also "weeped" for about a week or so.....hang tough....you will get there!!!

I struggled badly with lack of appetite for about 6-8 weeks. I had nausea from not eating and had to take tablets to try stop that as well....I dont remember what I ate but it wasnt very much or very often, even the thought of eating made me feel ill. Dry Ginger Ale is something I remember drinking to ease nausea, that helped a little. Good thing is, it eventually went away and I made up for lost time by eating everything in sight .

Keeping your wound dry as possible helps with the healing...it can be tricky in hot humid climates. The Betadine is probably your best remedy...resist the temptation to cover your wound with a bandaid.

I wasn't too interested in food for a couple of weeks post-op. My incision oozed for 2 weeks or so. At night I put a large bandage over the portion that oozed and took them off during the days and used a kleenex to keep the areas dry. They used some kind of glue instead of sutures on mine.

It will get better

MOST OHS patients find that food is not appealing for a while (couple to several weeks).

One Doc I know told his patients to eat ANYTHING that appealed to them, just so they got some calories to burn for energy.

All I can say is everything gets better in time,
just TOO MUCH TIME for most of us :-(
