ariel large hi ty for replying to my post. i have had a mitral vavle repair on the 16th september, and days later went back in AF. My consultant put me on digoxin to slow the rate of my heart down and when i went to see him on monday this week he informed me it had slowed down but am still in AF. He sent me for a ECG, Chest x-ray and a ECHO this told him the surgeon had repaired the leak but, now the blood isnt flowing enough and that the vavle is narrow. He hasnt actually said STENOSIS but going on my condition it sounds very much like it. I am going for a TOE on wednesday next week and this will hopefully rule this out:confused:

Hi, Steph

Hi, Steph

Welcome to the site.

Sorry to hear that you're having problems. Hope you get some good news soon.

Others will be along soon to say hi and offer their opinions; just wanted to tell you we enjoy seeing newbies from across the pond and you're welcome to ask any questions you might have.

Hi Stephanie,

This sounds like one of those things you are just going to have to wait to get more information about. I think we could do a lot of speculating but I don't know how helpful that would be. I don't even know if they do balloon valvoplasty on repaired valves. I'm anxious to find out what they discover next Wednesday...and I'm sure you are too.

Hi Steph-

Welcome to the site. It sounds like you are in the same situation many people are in when something doesn't show up as expected, and then has to have some investigation. I'm glad your docs are on top of things and are checking everything out thoroughly.

Don't get too nervous about it now. Wait until everything has been looked at. Many times things appear very differently when the end result finally appears.

My husband has been in that situation a couple of times. We do try not to worry unnecessarily until all the data is collected. And we've been pleasantly surprised on many occasions.

So keep us informed, and good luck.

Welcom Steph!

Welcom Steph!

Hi Steph, I did get your pm, and I tried to add you to my yahoo buddy list, but it said that username did not exsist.

I had my mitral valve repaired a year and a half ago, which I suppose is why you wanted to talk to me. I recently got my results from an echo done in June. Maybe Betty, (bvdr)can help us figure out what this means, but this is what it says:

Aorta 3.3 cm.
LA 4.6 cm.
RV 2.9 cm.
LV (d) 5.2 cm.
LV (s) 3.6 cm.
EF >55

(There's more here about the ventricle wall thickness)

IMPRESSION:

1. The left ventricle is normal in size, shape and contractility. The ejection fraction is normal.
2. The mitral valve has clearly been surgically repaired. There is echodensity of the mitral ring and thickening of the posterior leaflet. This thickening extends into the cords and the posterior leaflet appears immobile or nearly immobile. Nevertheless, the anterior leaflet has very good mobility and there is only minimal gradient across this valve. The gradient was measured at 8.5mm peak with a mean gradient of 2.9 and the mitral valve area was calculated at 2.2 cm2.
3. There is trace to mild mitral regurgitation.
4. The left atrium is enlarged measuring 4.6 cm, normal being 4.0.
5. The mitral valve inflow pattern was normal.
6. The aortic vavle is normal in size and function.
7. The aortic root is normal in size.
8. The right ventricle and right atrium are both normal in structure and function.
9. The tricuspid valve is normal in structure and function with a trace of regurgitation.
10. No pericardial abnormalities seen.

I had been telling Betty about some symptoms I was having, usually feel pretty good now, but don't have a lot of energy.
What I'm really wondering about is the immobile leaflet thing.

If you want to chat on yahoo, add me to your list.. it's just weekycat. Talk to you soon.
