My surgeon has recommended a mitral valve repair and an aortic replacement.
I have seen some discussion on aortic repair vs replacement and how not everyone qualifies for repair of aortic.

Any comments on mitral valve repair?

As for repair vs. replacement of the mitral valve. I just had mine replaced a few weeks back. My surgeon was pretty confident he could repair mine but indicated that until he could get 'in there' to see it he would not know for sure. I think that based on what they see on the echo's they estimate what they can do. The surgeon felt it could be repaired but the Cardiologist did not. The cardio told me all along this would need to be a replacement based on the amount of regurgitation that was present. So, from what I understand it all depends on the type of damage that is present to determine if it can be repaired or not. The echo and a TEE can help them estimate what will be done, but the final decision is made when they are able to get a better look. At least that is how mine played out. Good luck to you.

Thanks for your input.

I read the boards often but don't post very much so I'm pretty new here.

I have two leaky valves. The aortic is leaking badly and the mitral is moderate. I don't know measurements.

I am truly freighten.

Again thanks

If you had an echocardiogram done, you can get a copy of the report.
Then you will have your valve measurements on it. I helped me to see them because I was in so much denial.
