Sent the link on to my brother who is very computer savvy and he liked it and sent on some other suggestions you might like and an answer about the cookies:

"Thanks. I installed and ran it. I had one insignificant threat. I am running "Spysweeper" so I wasn't surprised.

I am going to use the Microsoft product. The Spysweeper I am running is a free program but to get updates you have to buy it.

AntiSpyware will detect and remove cookies but the default settings don't enable cookie searching. They do this because if you erase all of the cookies many of the websites you frequent won't recognize you and you won't get personalized info or auto log in. (You probably have discovered this). I played around with the advanced settings and like the program.

I have been using Google "desktop search" and like it: http://www.google.com/options/index.html (scroll down to tools). It is an easy way to search your computer for files, much easier and quicker than a Windows search. I also use Google's Picasa a picture organizer I like it better for ease of organizing and searching than anything else I have tried including Photoshop, which I have been using."

Is it OK to delete these Registry keys that the spyware programs find? I'm never sure about it. I hate fooling around with the registry.
Only what the program finds.

Thanks!

Thanks!

Hi Ross, and thanks again for replying. It's very kind of you to take your time to help us all out with our machines. I hope you're doing well.

Ross - I'm thinking of deploying the MS beta on a corporate network, at least those client machines with open iternet access. Have you heard ANY negatives about the beta, or is it all good reports so far?

On the home front, I run AdAware about twice a week, with Bazooka Scanner as a final test -- machine runs fine, for now. I would also add the MS product there, too, if it checks out OK.

Steve I've heard absolutely no negatives so far. Everyone seems happy, but being Beta, they may come along with a program update that could screw up the whole works. With them, you just never know. Personally, if your client machines are prone to nasties, I'd run it on them. It's easy enough to remove if trouble developes later down the road.

Any Problems?

Any Problems?

Hi Everyone!
I was just wondering if anyone out there has had any problems getting back on the internet through their server after downloading this? I did it on my computer and everything worked just fine. A friend of mine put it on her computer and it messed up everything. She couldn't get back on using AOL. Are there problems for people who use AOL? She had do delete the download and set her computer up all over again. It keeps telling her that when it goes in to sign her on AOL, it goes through the steps but then an ERROR comes up saying that the beta spyware has found something with the aol that it is blocking. Anyone else have this problem?
Ross, let me know if you have any ideas. I'll pass them along to my friend.

Thanks Everyone!
Take Care!

Not that I've heard of. She may have blocked herself when she first installed the program. I know alot of people freak out and click anything not knowing what they are clicking allow or disallow too before reading and comprehending. If that's the case, all she need do is open the program, go to real time protection, applications list and manage allowed/blocked programs.

I deal with people everyday at another forum that install software, never ever check to see what all settings there are, then get mad and do a system restore or format their hard drives because they are too lazy to look at settings or help files.

Everything installed on a computer must be configured to the operators likings, not necessarily the programs. Doesn't matter what it is, open the program and check it out. Change settings to suit your needs, not the programs defaults. They set defaults to provide the most protection on first run, but it may well block something needed.

Thanks!

Thanks!

Thanks Ross!
I was thinking it was something like that but I am not as confident about my computer skills as you are. I haven't had any problems. I really like it. My computer is running great. Much faster. Thanks again for your help.

Take Care!
Gail
