Hey folks, many of you ask me about what to get to remove spyware. Microsoft has just released a Beta (Testing) program from Giant Software that they acquired. I normally don't recommend Beta anything, but this is an exception to the rule. This thing finds and removes things that others have failed to find. I'm very pleased with it and think you all should have it on your machines. Just by watching the forums as I do, I see many of you with funweb which is spyware, so I'm sure that these machines have more then just funweb on them. Please check into this. I think you'll be pleased with it and it's free with free updates until July 31st of this year. Unfortunately, it will not work nor is it for Windows 9x systems.

Supported Operating Systems: Windows 2000, Windows 2000 Advanced Server, Windows 2000 Professional Edition , Windows 2000 Server, Windows 2000 Service Pack 2, Windows 2000 Service Pack 3, Windows 2000 Service Pack 4, Windows Server 2003, Windows XP, Windows XP Home Edition , Windows XP Media Center Edition, Windows XP Professional Edition , Windows XP Service Pack 1, Windows XP Service Pack 2, Windows XP Tablet PC Edition

Say there Bud....

Say there Bud....

:D :D :D Thanks a bunch for the link and the new spyware software....because of a foolish error relayed to me this past week, I got hit, and got HIT HARD with adware, spyware, porn pop ups and anything else you can think of, and I have been working constantly to get rid of it....and now I think I have. Thanks again Ross. :D :D :D

Ok Ross.
I went to the link, but it's too hard for me.
Are you surprised?

Do you trust Bill Gates?

Do you trust Bill Gates?

Yea I noticed the so called anti-spyware software from Big Bill several days ago but it is yet to be installed.....
Since Bill Gates put " spyware " into his Windows Operating Systems and back doors all over the place I must ask myself if I trust this software at this time. For now I must say NO.
Given time the internet security technofabs will give the answers to this, but for now it's not going on my daughter's pc.... as for myself I'll stick to Linux :)))

It's possible, but far less damaging then the spyware is and that's what I'm getting at.

Hi there Ross, first of all I want to thank you once again for helping us (Robert and I) out with that Adarson stuff and so on. What would you recommend for our PC that we can also get for free? Thamks again!

Nifty download. Although I run "bought" Ad-Aware and recently added the free version of spybot (at your suggestion), it did pick up three new items.

I note that eBay is now running at a more appropriate speed, so one of them must have been using up some serious cycles on me.

Thanks, Ross.

Debra I sent you the links to all the goodies for your system. I have nothing more to offer there, sorry.

tobagotwo don't know if you added this to the collection, but it's knocking stuff out that nothing else is touching. I used to think Spy Sweeper was the greatest on the planet, well this thing puts it to shame!

I just did one machine that was severely infected. I think every piece of spyware known to man was on it. Surprised the machine even ran, but it knocked it all out. Took awhile, but it's gone!

Oh, it's in and functioning, as we speak. Definitely. At least, until they start seriously charging for it. I also started banging the jungle drums to friends and family.

Spy Sweeper? I don't know that one. Should that also be in the arsenal?

Best regards,

Okay, you've all convinced me- I'm going to install the MSFT beta tonight. I also have purchased Ad-Aware- do I need to uninstall it before installing the MSFT anti-spyware?

I still have Ad-Aware in and available. Doesn't seem to be a problem, as I just ran it. Ad-Aware found some suspect cookies, too. I think I am somehow not getting the MS product to scan the cookies, as it said that it hadn't.

I don't know if the Ad Watch subprogram of Ad-Aware would be good running simultaneously with the MS product, though.

Spybot runs OK as well.

Too chicken to test the Ad Watch portion right now. If I try it, I'll let you know (assuming I don't destroy my internet access in the process).

Best wishes,

Best regards,
Spy Sweeper by Webroot is a pay for product with yearly definiton subsciption. It's good, but not this good. I'm sure MS will charge for this when it goes final, but hey, reap the benefits now and save some major headaches. Use it along with the others. I'm in no way saying get rid of them. You'll need them too!

Installed with no problem- it found 3 threats, 15 files infected and 4 registry keys, no cookies. Ran Ad-aware next and it found 16 cookies. Guess I'll keep using both.

As far as cookies go, they really aren't a threat or very low priority, so the scanner doesn't scan for them, but it will block 3rd party cookies from installing if resident protection is enabled. There is too much hallabaloo made about cookie detection. Personally, I don't think any of the companies should've included scanning for them.

Is it OK to delete these Registry keys that the spyware programs find? I'm never sure about it. I hate fooling around with the registry.
