Like him or not, I think for most of us, he was a huge part of our lives. He apparantly had a heart attack.

My heart aches for the cute little lost boy he once was. What he grew up to be was so strange and bizarre and mentally disturbed.

When you look at his pictures at a young age, you can see the excitement and talent.

I wish fame and fortune didn't do this so so many people.

So extremely weird, but also extremely talented. He was the music and the moves of the late 70's and early 80's. I was in college for the beginnings of MTV and I will never forget his Thriller video.

Well said. I share your thoughts.

Wow, isn't this a shocker! Earlier I had heard that Farah Fawcett had lost her battle to cancer & now this!

Two huge icons gone the same day! It's too bad that too that Farah died before being wed to Ryan who had repeatedly asked her to marry him for many years! Sad! :(

When I first heard the news, I could her him singing BEN. We lost two greats today, almost exactly 6 hours apart, Farrah Fawcett and Michael Jackson. Fate? Is there a meaning to it all?

When I heard about Farah Fawcett my little chimp heart went back to that one of a kind red swim suit poster .... she was a fighter .... may she reat in peace:(

Yes, I am very sorry so see them go. Beautiful Farrah, who lost her fight against cancer, a most insidious enemy! Micheal Jackson, I remember well the Thriller Album. It was my favorite! What an entertainer! I believe he was a very lonely man. A very strange person. Seems I remember, he collapsed on stage several years ago. They said he had cardiac arrest today, but I can't help but wonder if maybe drugs did not exacerbate an existing heart condition?? I hope not, but he is gone, so I suppose it doesn't really matter?? I do hope they are in a better place.

Sorry for his family, and friends. And fans (I am not one).

Sorry he died early of apparent heart-related causes (though many do).

Absolutely flabbergasted at the cable networks' nonstop coverage. You'd think this was a head of state instead of a pop artist. Would the death of Springsteen, another pop "King," receive equivalent coverage?

If North Korea fired a missile at us right n-o-w, would CNN and Fox break into their maudlin Jackson coverage to let us know?

There seems to be substantial evidence that Michael Jackson was a victim who created multiple additional victims. I am a music lover, but not enough of a music lover to see very far past the tragedies of so many young lives.

Let me hasten to add that I am sure that his fans don't in any way condone what he might have done. Through my years of being a prosecutor, as well as non-professional experience, I inevitably will see some things differently. It is, however, a fact, that victims can be dismayed and badly hurt by adulation of their abuser. I know that some allegations never got to court, and others were never proved beyond a reasonable doubt. I can feel sorry for Michael Jackson, as I could for any human being, but it ends there for me.

I was never a Michael Jackson fan though I did listen to his music due to my daughter who was a HUGE fan. She spent a few hours crying and feeling really bad last night. I am sorry for the loss his family must endure.

Farrah, on the other hand, totally shocked me. I know she was losing her battle but did not expect it so fast. I loved her in the Burning Bed!

Now you know that makes three this week....Ed McMahon, Farrah Fawcett and Michael Jackson. Hopefully, we are all done for awhile!

I am saddened that Farrah has to take a back seat to all this media hype over Jackson. I will miss her smile which was always there even when she was showing her missing hair in her recent documentary program.

Interesting Gina because I was thinking something similar - she didn't even get a whole day for herself. I remember how I could never get my hair to look like hers. Mine was too thick and too much with a mind of its own. My daughter, on the other hand, dressed as her a couple of years ago for "70's Day" and looked almost identical.

I hope this is okay to post here. I just had a strange realization this morning. I had forgotten yesterday that my father died in 1985 on June 25 at age 50 of heart failure (probably due to alcoholism). Anyway, I turn 50 this year, and the whole thing just momentarily weirded me out. Now I return to the regularly scheduled purpose of this thread.

I think Jackson's fame, and the suddenness of his death, helped the overshadowing of Farrah's coverage. In either case, they are tragic losses.

I was not a fan of Jackson's personal life, as my perception of him goes. I was however a fan of his music, with "Off The Wall" and "Thriller" being his best efforts.

Farrah was a beautiful woman and was on Charlie's Angels. That's about all I really know about her. I knew about her knock out performance in "Burning Bed," but didn't see it. That was the first time I knew that she could really act.

Then Ed McMahon, someone I always liked, but I can't tell you why. It has been so long since I saw him with Johnny Carson (the only legitimate Tonight Show host, IMHO).

What a week!
