Hey all,

24 hours to go. Fellow Denverite KristyW will be posting for me while I'm in the hospital. I'm working, paying bills, tying up loose ends, and going to lunch with friends today, trying to stay too busy to stare at the clock. You know, I'm more excited than scared, which seemed comforting until I remembered that I was never scared of the big rapids before we flipped in a Class 5.
After that, I got a kinda weak kneed before rapids and tried to avoid the really big water. (We flipped in "Little Niagra" and swam the next rapid "Satan's Gut", don' cha like that!) I'm wondering if there's some big water headed my way?

There's three of us up tomorrow, you think with a concerted effort we might get that truck's plate number?

Marcia

Marcia,

We will be thinking of you and keeping you in our prayers.

GODSPEED!

Umm I don't know if I do or not, but this guy certainly likes it:

Marcia,

Class 5 rapids?!?!?!?!?!? Aren't those the ones that are described as "significant risk of death" and/or "never successfully navigated (alive)"  ?!?!? Sounds like you already have some powerfull friends on your side (not the least of which is Mother Nature), but I'll have you in my prayers anyway. I'll refrain from singing Ohio football songs, unless you put in a special request.

Ross,

If one more person looks at me and says, "Good Lord, Dale," I'll do something unspeakable.

Will be thinking of you and praying for you during your day of surgery and the first few days after. It is almost unbelievable to me that I am now on the other side of the mountain - 4-1/2 weeks out from surgery. Time does march on and you will get through this and be scratching your head in a month, too, not believing what has happened to you, encouraging others who are just getting ready to have their own surgery.

God be with you and guide the surgeons hands - may your recovery be smooth and swift.

Marcia,

Best wishes to you. I hope things go very smoothly. Remember that you have many people praying for you.

Hi Marcia,
I felt the same way about the scar , but now I do wear some low cut tops and I am OK with it. Sometimes I will use a little concealer and it's hardly noticable. I wish you a uneventful surgery and speedy recovery. HFK

Ditto the above from me Marcia,

I hope both of us reappear in post surgery together,

Lorraine

Marcia,
Things will go well, I'm sure. I was positively catatonic the day of surgery but here I am scar and all. It's my badge of survivorship. I don't hesitate to wear low cut tops and it does help the cleavage! ;) Our thoughts go with you and your surgeon. See you on the other side.

Scars

Scars

I am a newbie here (have a consult for possible mitral valve surgery next week) and have been perusing the old threads. As a newbie, forgive me for butting in, but I was fascinated by the posts about scars. I have to say this, because I have a lot of experience with surgical scars.
Many things about mitral valve surgery scare me, but scars aren't one of them. You see, some years ago I had serious vascular problems in my left arm, which after a good many months of intense pain, resulted in an amputation of my entire left arm & most of my left shoulder. Since that episode, I have had a good life, including marrying a fine man who cares about me, not my absent left arm. The main reason I bring this up, is the scarring itself actually pretty minimal, even though it wasn't just a chop-the-bad-part off amputation, it was a complex surgery tying up all those big and small vessels over a large area. The surgical techniques these days are really really good as to scarring.
I have scars from minor stuff I had as a kid that are more visible than the scars from the arm operation.
Heck, the worst scar I have from the arm operation is from a badly done attempt at placing an IV in my ankle. A resident tried to do it, it was his first IV, and he shook so badly a nurse had to take over, and the place he tried to stick it in later got infected.

Scar

Dont worry about the scar Marcia. It gets better pretty quick. I'm 6 months post-op and I still wear low cut tops sometimes. I have found that using Mederma helps and I will sometimes take a foundation spounge and blot a bit of foundation on it to even it out a bit. It really isnt too bad :) And my scar is actually pretty wicked, sounds like your doc will do much better with yours. Chin up Marcia, You'll still be just as beautiful if not more since you'll probably feel better!
