I had to share this joke that my husband got from one of his breakfast buddies. John teaches remedial math at a community college and his breakfast buddies call him "Professor." One of them once gave him a T-shirt that says "4 of 3 people can't do fractions."

A public school teacher was arrested today at John F. Kennedy International Airport as he attempted to board a flight while in possession of a ruler, a protractor, a set square, a slide rule, and a calculator. At a morning press conference, the Attorney General said he believes the man is a member of the notorious Al-Gebra movement.
He did not identify the man, who has been charged by the FBI with carrying weapons of math instruction.

"Al-Gebra is a problem for us," the Attorney General said. "They desire solutions by means and extremes, and sometimes go off on tangents in search of absolute values. They use secret code names like 'x' and 'y' and refer to themselves as 'unknowns,' but we have determined they belong to a common denominator of the axis of medieval with coordinates in every country. As the Greek philanderer Isosceles use d to say, 'There are 3 sides to every triangle'.''

When asked to comment on the arrest, President Bush said, "If God had wanted us to have better Weapons of Math Instruction, he would have given us more fingers and toes." Republican leader, Dick Cheney, told reporters he could not recall a more intelligent or profound statement by the President.

Glad to know we're safe. :) Subversives who slowly change society by degrees need watching also.

I've always been very suspicious of people who understand math. Or is it arithmetic? John's told me the difference between the two terms, but it's not important enough to engrain in my brain.

I remember silly little algebra problems like:

A car fleeing a bank robbery departs at 10:01 a.m. from 2000 Main St. and is traveling at 50 mph. It is heading east on Main Street.

A freight train carrying 200 new Nissans and 100 cars of coal is traveling at 40 mph and will cross 100 Main St.

Questions:
At what time will we get to see some very dirty new Nissans and money flying in the air?
