Hi All!
I just have to share my experiance today.
This month has been designated as National Bone, Tissue and Organ donor Month. Let me tell you about my family's connection with organ/bone/tissues donation.
3 years ago, my son had a large tumor in his pelvis. When they removed the tumor, the empty space needed to be filled with donor bone. He has since recovered and outside of him not being able to swim in college anymore, his is ok.
This past November, my father passed away. He was a "fix-it" kind of guy, always willing to help someone, always willing to fix sometime. Upon his death, we were asked if we desired to make any donations from my fathers body. My mother replied, ( in my fathers fix-it sprit), "If it can help anyone, go ahead", (add a Latvian accent to that!).
My father died because of a calcified aortic valve, oddly the same valve I had replaced. I figured, what could they possibly take from an 84 year old man, whose heart failed, organs shut down?
They took skin tissue and ...... bone! My father, in a round about way paid back his grandsons' bone transplant! Odd how God works!
Today in my state capitol building in Madison WI, we had a human display of the power of organ donation. One person was in the middle on the capitols' rotunda and 50 individuals spread out with silk ribbons to the edges. This is how many people a donation can effect.
Please talk to your families and make your intention known. Heaven knows that we need your organs here on earth. Remember that organ donation extends YOUR life!
My God bless all of you!

I too, am glad you posted this and brought the subject to the forefront. I would ask everyone to consider this, because you never know what impact it may have.

Organ donor

I have had 4 cadaver valves so I know the importance of organ donors. My brother in law is on the heart transplant list. I signed my license years and years ago. Also I want to tell everyone to please make your family aware of your wishes. They will be the ones making the final decision.

Great post!

Great post!

Amen!

(just an aside) Several years I brought my dad to an ER for something or other. When registering him, the secretary asked if he was an organ donor. He said " Yes, but I'm not planning to today."

It is a standard question in our hospital, is it everywhere?

Organ, blood, bone and tissue donors are wonderful generous people. I wouldn't be alive, nor would I have such a high quality of health if it weren't for those folks and their families! Bless each and every one of them!

Because of someone else's generosity, I have a healthy AV that is working beautifully. I was also glad to hear that older people can still donate and have parts used. I wondered if it was even worth it for me to continue signing the card...what about if you have had cancer...12 years ago, but I did have it? I can't give blood anymore.
