I have had severe aortic stenosis (with a bi-valve) for several years, actually diagnosed in 1998. It progressed to the point where ignoring it is no longer an option. After some research and discussions with several cardiologists and my surgeon, I have decided to go with the tissue (porcine or bovine), left it up to the surgeon) valve based on the avoidance of warfarin and the belief that the new procedures to deliver a replacement valve via a catheter-like method will be common place by the time I need it replaced. I am 58.

I go in on the 16th (in Singapore) for an angio, followed by surgery on the 17th of January.

Will keep you posted, wish me luck !

Best wishes with your procedure. At 58 you should get many good years out of your valve choice.

I made the same decision at the same age BUT,
came home with a St. Jude Mechanical Valve
(because of the extent of Radiation Damage
that may have been underestimated at first).

SO, I highly recommend having a "Plan B"
if for no other reason than
'just in case' Plan A is not viable.

Good to have you aboard.

I'm 54 and chose bovine at age 52. So far so good!!

Good luck with your surgery and please keep us posted. Feel free to ask anything.....we're here to help and support!

Welcome aboard VR Dan. Good luck on your surgery. Keep us posted.

God Bless,

CP:)

Thank You

Thank You

Thanks to all for the encouragement and support, it means a lot. Also thanks for the backup suggestion, my backup will be a St Jude since the surgeon does not have ON-x experience.

Thanks again, I'm a little scared but really looking forward to getting this over with and getting my life back to "normal".

Best Wishes

Dan - always great to have made the decision - all my best wishes for the operation and a fast recovery.

Dan,

I'll be watching, too. I'm about the same age as you (just 60), and will soon need to make the valve choice. It will be interesting to hear which valve you finally receive, and to understand your surgeon's decision process through it all.

Hope all goes well, Dan. Another VR.COM member, Wes, recently had valve replacement (not in Singapore but) in Japan and his experience was different--not in a bad way--from here. It will be interesting to see your followup.

Take care and post again. Best wishes.
