Hi all,

Just a quick note to let everyone know that my husband made it through surgery. They ended up putting him on bypass 2 times due to trouble finding and fixing the coronary sinus defect. The pulmonary valve replacement and the Maze procedure went well.
He is in the process of weaning off the vent now....and having some issues. I am TRYING to be patient but it is hard being a ICU RN and not being able to help or assist...it is hard to let go and let others take care of your husband! LOL
Please continue to keep us in your thoughts and prayers! He is growing increasingly flusterated with getting off the vent!!!

Thanks!
Dawn

Glad to know he's holding his own, it will be soon when they get him off the tube. Then he will feel so much better.
Wow must be hard as you say as a nurse to NOT try to do stuff. You can do them when he comes home.
Take time to rest yourself and get things ready at home.
It's been a week and 4 days since my husbands arotic valve replacement and he's getting itchy to do stuff that he can't do. Like drive. LOL

Our prayers and thoughts are with you.

Great to hear the good news. Sending best wishes for your husband to have a smooth uneventful recovery. Take care of yourself also.

Thanks for posting the good news- hope he is off the vent and on his way to recovery soon!

Great to hear the fantastic news! Hang tough and yes save that energy for when he comes home then your RN nerves can jump in! Cant imagine your patience in not "jumping in" Kudos to you girl! I hope the journey ahead is easy and uneventful!:)

HI all...

Just a quick update...we made it off the vent yesterday morning at 11 am. Unforunately....still kind of out of it....but we are hoping that the pain meds will be converted to oral and off of the PCA later today and that the chest tubes are removed also. They are thinking that he will move out of the ICU later today! YEAH!
Continue to keep us in your thoughts and prayers!

Thanks!
Dawn

Thanks for taking the time to update Dawn and we look forward to hearing that he is out of ICU soon!

I'm glad to read this update. The worst is behind you, so I'm sure he will make quicker progress to today.:)

Glad to hear the progress. Excellent he is off the vent and hopefully onto oral pain meds by now. PLease keep us updated..... hope all goes smoothly for an uneventful recovery.

And a huge thank you for the work you do. Where would all us OHS valvers be without nurses like you? The surgeons work their magic but it is the nurses that get us well. I could never thank my nurses enough for all they did for me through two OHS. Thank you.

Dawn, I'm happy to hear that things are going ok. Dr. Dearani kept me on my pain pump for the whole 8 days I was there...didn't take it out until about 1 hour before I checked out. I was also kept in ICU for 48 hours and kept my chest tubes in 6 days for 2 and 7 for one. I know ya'll are in good hands and getting great care. Take care and keep us updated.

Dawn so happy to hear he's off the vent. As soon as his chest tubes are out and he's on oral meds he will feel so much better. My husband is two weeks out of surgery on Monday and he's feeling almost normal. I have to keep him down from doing stuff. He can really tell the difference in the new valve. It will get better every day. Take care and also take care of you....

Isn't this wonderful news Dawn and isn't this the good
part out of surgery and vent eventually removed now
The hard part of waiting for you too during surgery
I'm so happy for you all and be sure yourself to rest up
it wasn't for our spouses on the other side we'd be lost
Godbless to your strenght in all of this to
