Confused: Lipitor & Aortic Valve Regurgitation
Confused: Lipitor & Aortic Valve Regurgitation
Finally spoke with my cardiologist today and he recommended Lipitor 10mg in addition to all the other meds I already take. Since my LDL is 117, I thought it was not too bad since normal is 100 or below. He stated that in cases of bicuspid aortic valves like mine, he'd prefer an LDL number in the 50 to 80 range and that I would not get there on exercise and nutritional changes. He also stated that a nutritional solution was not a very good option since I am 5'8 and weigh 140lbs so I am a thin man. Lost 42 lbs since was told of BAV two years ago and I think it has lowered the demands on my heart.
Anyone ever heard of needing a lower LDL because of BAV and aortic regurg? Do the valves get hurt from the LDL or are they more suceptible to accumulation of fat or calcium as a result?
