Sounds to me like there is a renewed appreciation going on in the house Glenda. Your happier and perhaps since you are, they are too. ;)

I am so glad for you. doctors can write when they go to medical school; they just can't when they get out. my husband had the most beautiful handwriting, went to med school and now writes in scratch - well, last time I saw it.

you sound so happy and isn't it just amazing the things husbands can actually do when they are suddenly on their own.

keep on truckin, my friend.

sorry about the tornado, but thankfully it only kissed you when it went by and didn't attack too hard.

It is amazing that doctor's have so much eduation but they don't seem to teach them to write. I told one of the younger ones today that they must carry around a chicken in their pockets because that's what their writing looks like "chicken scratch." He thought that was so funny. On top of that they all use latin terms. Why can't they use just plain English! !

Oh well, it is getting a lot easier. I finally started studying a patinets chart more and then I more or less can figure out what tests he should have done and the medicine he should be taking. There is always a couple of charge nurses present and the can usually figure it out, now always but most of the time.

It's a very busy, high stress job. Time flies. I can't believe when the day is over. I'm still on days for two more weeks. In fact tomorrow I was off so I'm going into ICU and volunteer. I miss all of the crew in there. I think if the unit secretary's job ever opened up in ICU I would grab it. Not that I'm unhappy with where I'm at but In ICU I get to deal more with the patent's families. It's also a lot more physical work and not as mental. The ICU nurses put in all the orders. Of course they only have two patients where the Gen Surg nurses usually have 8-9 patients. It's quite a difference.

Well, better get to bed since 4:30 sure rolls around awful fast!

Love ya all!

Glenda:

Actually, medical terminology also uses Greek words. Here's something about the medical terminology, with links to basic sources of terminology.

I took 3 years of Latin in high school, would have taken a 4th year, but course was canceled due to not enough students. I loved Latin. Very systematic, orderly. Wanted to become a Latin teacher ... until that 4th-year course was killed off.

Glad you're having fun with your new job. Loved the reference to "chicken scratch"!!!!!!!! :D
