Just a thought -

Let's not forget that PJmomrunner came up with this excellent idea:D...

I think it is a really good idea, the only thing that would keep me from really getting my hopes up, is, i haven't seen all the shows, but I don't remember any families that were picked that didn't have young kids or alot of kids.
IF Ross decides to go thru with appying I'll be happy to wrte a letter. I had friend apply (she has 10 kids, well her 8 and 2 stepsons,) and I seem to remember they asked alot of people to write letters about why they were such a deserving family.
I'm pretty sure karlynn is right (yes mark your calender karlynn lol) I seem to rember there was alot of problems in the begining with the whole gift tax and not being about to pay the much bigger property tax, so i think they worked that out someway.
or If we use plan B Justin just got his dad a compound miter saw for Chritmas and has been looking for a reason to use it (Justin not don) so I'll ship him to ohio for a few days :)

DITTO! What a great idea and I think he is a perfect candidate!
but, but, but, I want one of the homes your family builds. :)

Hey I know someone who is in far more dodo then I.

I don't know about knocking the whole house down and building a mansion but if there is some scheme such as I benefitted from the other week then the boost to morale is really worth a great deal. Mind you, a nice new house would be good! ;)

If I can add my support to enable something nice to happen to Ross, or anyone else if it comes to that, then I am in.

Great Idea!!!

Great Idea!!!

I can't think of a more deserving person!!! Ross I think you should fill out the app and see what happens. IF it isn't meant to be ....then you won't have to worry.....but if they do approve you then you can work out the other details and if isn't something that you can't do then you don't have to do it....heck I haven't been to Ohio yet.....but would love to go just for this!!! Go for it Ross and see what happens.....please....please :D Right now you could use some positve in your life!!!

I don't know, if they saw this place, they might decide it's better to start from scratch. I know that sounds terrible, but Lyn and I have often wished we could.

If it's the same person that I'm thinking of Ross, then you might be right.

If any members on here truly want to do a good deed, to help a forum member, please send either Ross or I a PM.

Yes it is the same person. I'd be more then happy to put the spot light on them. ( This person doesn't, but I feel it's very necessary) This person is in dire straights at the current time and could really use the help that all of you would like to give to me.

Let me know if I could somehow help! I have been very blessed and would love to pay it forward!

The idea of a home ?makeover? for Ross sounds wonderful....but may I suggest something a little more practical and easier to achieve? How about start a foundation and ask forum members for a $20 donation? If we get 500 members to contribute, we can donate $10,000 for any remodeling that Ross may need. Members who don't check the forum frequently could be reached via e-mail. Of course, anyone wanting to contribute more will be welcome. This does not preclude Ross from sending that application...who knows.
What does everyone think?

I'm willing to go with a donation...but the idea to nominate Ross for the show still sounds good.

Maka, the only problem is, I think people are tired of saving my butt. They did a huge thing for me when my wifes emergency kidney surgery took place and then again, a few did last August when I had a GI bleed. I think we need to spread our help around to others, not that I don't appreciate or even need, for that matter, the help, but another is in much more need then I right now.

I do not watch this TV show. I don't know how it is set up. I suspect they need people who have somewhat sensational stories. I think Ross and his family's recent plights MUST qualify! When I first saw PJ's post I just blurt out a.....well......it's not really printable, but it was something like "Frickin' aye!!" So, I say, let's act on PJ's inspiration.

As far as our other member...Ross and Mary.....perhaps you can be the unofficial organizers of fund drives. When Ross learns of a serious need, Mary can instigate the fund drive and those of us who can, can respond. I don't see this is much different from a prayer request, except it needs to be managed and dealt with more privately. It could all be done behind the scenes with pms and emails to protect the privacy of the individual. Perhaps with each new case, Mary can start a thread labelled Member In Need and the current DATE. Then we can respond accordingly. And then Mary could perhaps be the spokesperson ( no one would want to let generosity go unacknowledged) and again, protect the privacy.

Anyway, just a thought.

Dude, Ross.....let's go for it!!!

Marguerite,
Concerning our other member, we've been able to get the balling rolling to some extent on this. If you want to send me a PM, I'll let you know how you can help.:)

I know you people have brought tears of joy to my eyes plenty of times. I plan on being around for a while, so there's always, at least I hope so, time in the future to deal with me. This is not so for the person for whom we speak. Please, if you simply must help someone, help this person NOW.

How can we help!

How can we help!

Ross,

Is there a way I can help now? Can you be the go between? It is understandable if this person wishes to stay anonymous but I need a way to help. What do you suggest?

Heather:)

Heather, I believe if you email mary she can give you all the info you need.

Also sadly when Ross mentioned there is another member that has finacial problems ect, I thought of a few people here. We all know you can work for years and a few medical problems, or even one long time one can wipe you out, persoally WE almost lost everything when it took 3 years to be approved for social sec.

Since this thread shows how great and caring members are and are willing to help members going thru a rough patch. I was wonderring if there was every any thoughts about making VR a non profit, I know it is alot of work and a PIA just to do the paperwork, But IF it was a NP, not only could members donate to a fund type thing that could just be to help others, but then could even have a better chance of getting things/manpower donated when someone need work done or help w/ groceries.

One of the CHD groups I belong to has a fund for members that

"
With Spencer’s passing, The Kults and C.H.I.N. wanted to honor his memory in some way that would help other families who might be faced with financial difficulties. In an effort to reach out to these families, C.H.I.N. is now pleased to announce the creation of Spencer’s Fund, a family assistance program that will help families with financial expenses incurred during extended or far from home clinic appointments and hospital stays. Spencer’s Fund will provide groceries, meals, travel subsidies, lodging assistance, and utility payments to families in need.

It has and he most likely will, but it's not for me to say. He has been asked before.
