HI Andera,

I also agree with Al's suggestion about the butterful needle - as it really works much better than the regular needle. I always request the butterfly needle.

Good Luck and we'll be seeing you on the other side of the mountain..

Take Care :D

Yes, Al, I know what you mean!

I have tiny deep veins in my arms and those ding-dong lab techs just go rummaging around in my arms with their needles, trying to poke something to get some blood... There were a couple of times I was afraid the needle was going to pop out the other end of my elbow because the thing was buried in my arm! I often have them take the blood out of my hands, and I've had them mess up those before too. I was rehospitalized for a-fib after my valve replacement and had to have magnesium drips and perpetual blood draws and I was on a one quart of liquid a day limit then and they finally started having to take the blood out of my WRIST  and the last IV or two was also in my WRIST  !

Andrea, I hope everything goes well for you; take care.

Al --- They have only been using butterflies lol. You should see my arms and hands. The docs decided even though I'm not in perameters yet to drop my draws to every ten hours. So that will help. I have horrible veins. I hope after surgery that they keep the central line in as long as possible. I think policy is no longer than three days.

Sorry to hear about your veins.

Too bad hospitals don't use 'finger stick' instruments for measuring INR !

I guess all you can do now is 'grin and bear it'.

Best wishes!

Hi Andrea,

Have not had a lot of time to participate recently. Apologize for not posting sooner. So very sorry to hear about your redo. You will be in my thoughts and prayers.

God Bless.

Oh, Andrea - my veins are shriveling in sympathy with you - glad I don't need any blood drawn today. They run (dive?) at the mere thought of a needle.

Have you tried soaking your arms in hot water when it's time for a draw? It helps to bring my veins up and frankly, in my nsh opinion, the techs can just wait for you - might as well kill time waiting for you to warm your arms as dig around.

I found that if I was icky enough they only sent their best techs (they even sent up an oncology phlebotomist) with the smallest needles.

Then they sent me home early with instructions to get my blood drawn at the lab in two days.

We'll be waiting for news of your surgery.

Geesh - you're not going to make this an annual event, are you?

Best of luck, kick the techs, and my prayers are with you this week.

Gee Andrea I hope I am not to late to wish you luck on your surgery, I am going through all the post now and I am kinda new to this computer. Plus being old and blonde does not help either. Please take care....Jenny
