Sometime back, a VR member posted a link to the Last Lecture Randy Pausch gave after learning he had terminal pancreatic cancer.

He died today, and this is an excerpt of the news release announcing his death. If you haven't seen The Last Lecture, you can do a search and view it.

PITTSBURGH - Randy Pausch, a computer science professor whose "last lecture" about facing terminal cancer became an Internet sensation and a best-selling book, has died. He was 47.

Pausch died early Friday at his home in Virginia, said Anne Watzman, a spokeswoman for Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh where he worked. Pausch and his family moved there last fall to be closer to his wife's relatives.

Pausch was diagnosed with incurable pancreatic cancer in September 2006. His popular last lecture in September 2007 garnered international attention and was viewed by millions on the Internet.

That guy had a huge set of Cojones. I couldn't even begin to do what he did. One admirable man.

When I read of Randy's death this morning I was very sad for his family...even though he had done everything in his power to prepare them for his passing. I saw his last lecture on Oprah and was deeply touched and much of what he said has stuck with me. Thank you Randy Pausch!

What an inspirational man! He will be missed, but definitely left a legacy. I'm also a member of PanCan (Pancreatic Cancer Action Network) and got to hear him speak about his cancer and the need for more funding and research to help find better treatments and a cure for pancreatic cancer. It's a terrible cancer, and it claimed the lives of both my parents.

Debster913 i'm sorry to hear about your parents my sympathy to you

Randy pausch will be remembered for his laughter and now our tears.
His beautiful family, his lovely wife cried so hard at one of his lectures
when he brought out her birthday cake....a memory he has carved upon us.

His life story was on Primetime last night. I hate to see things like this happen to such good people. Must be some reason.

Perhaps the reason was so he would give this exact lecture... We'll never know, but I'd be willing to bet that lecture might have never happened had he not been dying. And look at how many lives he has touched because of it!

What an impressive life. He doesn't want to be mourned, he wants us to emulate him, being alive, conscious, and experiencing every moment for the wonder it is. For most of us, it's not as easy as it sounds. He is a heroe in my book!
