Karlynn

The only reason this is heart related is because it has to do with my anxious heart.

My daughter is at the end of her 8 week study abroad in France. She was to come home on Sunday. Got to the airport and, as usual for overseas flights, they had over-booked. They offered her a check for 600 EUR, 3 meals and a night in a hotel to go the next day (Monday). So she did. She shows up Monday and they offer her the same deal, plus business class seating to come home Tuesday (today). She took that. She gets to the airport today, gets her business class seat - and finds out that the plane has a problem window and the flight will be delayed. Now it's delayed until tomorrow morning!!!!! She had just a few minutes on a calling card (don't know why her intelligent 19-year-old mind isn't telling her to just go buy another one).

So I'm just a little anxious that my Shelby will arrive home safely and could use a few prayers to back me up.

I am sending positive thoughts you way.
Your daughter should be fine it's not like she is stuck is some third world county where anything could happen!!
It just may be a little more expensive than she planned. :(

so nerve wracking!!

so nerve wracking!!

Karlynn. Hang in there!! This stuff happens all the time. Be glad that they found the problem with the window before they took off!!

She'll have a great story about how hard she tried to get home for the rest of her life. It's a bonus!! An added adventure.

My son went to England in fall 2004 and then 3 weeks in Greece this summer. He usually gets bumped off flights, misses connections, the worst. Flying home from college he often had to wait longer in the airport than the time of his flight home!! For some reason, those big ones were smooth sailing for him. It's the luck of the draw. She'll probably meet someone fantastic in all this and be smiling and more grateful than ever to be home!!

But keep us posted!! We're all in there with ya!! Thanks for letting us into your fretting heart......we've all been there!

:D Marguerite

I also pray for her safe return to you and your family. I also that God will give you peace while you wait for her return. Best wishes.

We always worry so much about our kids don't we? I guess that is our job no matter how old they are...LOL! I definitely will say some prayers for a safe trip home for your daughter. I'll also say a few for you to help ease the anxiety you are feeling about her flight. I'm sure everything will be just fine.

Take Care!
Gail

:D Aw, heck - a couple extra days in France, free hotel, free food, upgraded trip - I'll bet she's having a TERRIBLE time. :D

No wonder you're worried.

She'll be fine.

Many prayers and safe travel prayers coming..

My daughters travel everywhere, third world countries, on a cruise when there was a hurricane in the area, you name it. My youngest is just on her way to Fla. with some international guests and her little children. This will be her second time driving from NY to Fla. and back in a month. I'm always worried. They've had things happen for sure. But they have learned to be experienced travelers and just roll with the punches.

Your daughter will be fine, and I'll keep her in some silent prayers.

Let us know when she arrives.

Will be thinking of her Karlynn and hoping she gets home safely and soon!
If she wants to hop on a boat and come over to us she's more than welcome! Only takes a couple of hours. :)

Nancy - maybe I'll see your daughter in Florida soon!

Karlynn, I'll be praying for Shelby's safe return. I know God will wrap his arms around her and you during this time. It doesn't matter how old our children are, they will always be our babies, and we will always tend to fret or be anxious over things that involve them like this. I know you're looking forward to seeing her! Linda

Saying a prayer for Shelbys safe return. My baby is 32 and I still worry about her all the time when she is very far away. She went on a cruise with some friends three years ago and I was glad she was having such a good time but worried about her the whole time she was gone.

You have my prayers but also be assured that she is fine. Better that they find out the plane has a problem BEFORE it takes off.

Business class from France!!! She will be really spoiled.

Hugs coming your way.

Goodness, oh..

Goodness, oh..

Oh, Karlynn. There are reports of a plane crash from Paris in Toronto. Today. It's Tuesday. She's still in France, right??? You said Wednesday. Oh my. You're going to be so frazzled and worried. Prayers and good thoughts coming every which way!! Best wishes going to the passengers also, until we hear more.

How are you doing?

Marguerite

Yes, Shelby is still in France thank goodness!! And she's not booked on Air France. I've been fielding phone calls from paniced family members who knew she was supposed to be flying in to Toronto today.

This was all a little too close for comfort and I'm trying to settle my nerves. I'm wondering how many people who were booked on her grounded flight were on this one that crashed because they pulled some strings to get on it.

But thank you all so much for your prayers. I know that in the grand scheme of things it's pretty small, but I will feel SO much better when she's home.

I, too,

I, too,

saw the plane crash story on CNN a few minutes ago and hopped on the board to make sure that Shelby is okay and not on that plane!! What a coincidence - just reading your post this morning Karlynn and then an Air France plane crashing in Toronto.

I pray your daughter is okay and she WILL be okay, she will get home and run safe into your arms.

I don't have children, but I can relate (on this end of the mother-child side of things) with all of this as my mother worried so about me flying, driving, climbing mountains, whatever!!!

All will be well - put all your worries and fears in God's hands.

Christina L.

Karlynn,

Karlynn,

Our posts crossed - thank goodness Shelby is still in France, but you are right, how wild is that?! - planes rarely crash and just as we are all praying for Shelby's safe return, this happens.

So she will fly into Toronto, huh? I guess I have never been to Europe, so wouldn't know where the planes fly into to make connecting flights.

Just heard that no one was killed in the crash - great news - a miracle really.

Christina L.

Janie, you are so right on the booking. The trips we've made to Europe have all been overbooked. Why do they keep doing that?

She's on Air Canada. They had the cheapest flights when we booked her round trip tickets about 5 months ago. She flew ORD to Montreal on the way there. I guess a lot of the kids flying back were going through Toronto. I guess there aren't many inexpensive non-stop flights to Paris. We found that out last year when we booked our Paris trip. We had a connection in Phily that time.

Our family never seems to fly without complications. On our trip to Rome 4 years ago we had to make an emergency landing at Kennedy because our navigational equipment gave out. I mean EMERGENCY landing too. It was scary. The pilot aborted 2 attempts when we were about 500 feet off the ground. I've never experienced such a thing. The plane engines gunned and we went straight up, or it felt like it. The flight attendant sitting next to us (who we had chatted with before the attempts and found out he'd been flying for 20 years) hyperventilated and almost passed out. Our 3rd attempt succeeded and we had quite the parade of fire engines and ambulances with sirens and lights going. We could see the foam trucks all waiting for us. We actually got on the flight the next day and went to Rome. That experience showed me my ol' St. Jude could take a lickin' and keep on tickin'. :) I will say that flight ended up being a blast. We were all bonded after that experience and had quite the party on the way to Rome. We still keep in touch with this wild family from California that was on the flight to take a once-in-a-life time family reunion trip.

Thanks again for all the prayer support!

Let us know when she gets home!

Karlynn,

I can't wait to hear you say Shelby is home safe and sound.
