Why thank you darlin-maybe we better include Janie in our planning process afore we get too serious.

Luc:

I am also very new to the waiting room on this website. Seems like a nice enough place to wait it out! I was diagnosed in 2001, so I've been trying to gather information and surgery stories. I figure the more youo know beforehand, the better the recovery. I am fortunate that it appears I have a few years to prepare. But who knows, my next check-up is summer of 2004 and they may be booting me out of the waiting room then.

So, welcome!

Welcome, Luc

Welcome, Luc

Glad you found your way here. It's a great place to be both pre- and post-surgery.

Your doggies are darling. I have 4 cats and 3 dogs (all strays). My newest acquisition (I guess I should say that he acquired me) is a 25 lb longhair neutered male cat who scares my dogs to death and has pretty much decided that this is a good place to live. Even as I'm typing this he's trying to get in my lap with the laptop. Quite a battle has been taking place. :D

Keep us informed how things go this week. One thing we all support is dumping docs who are incompetent/unsympathetic/didactic/or anything else that makes us uncomfortable. No one cares about our hearts like we do. Because we've been blessed with conditions that are reversable/fixable/improvable, we need to take advantage of that and demand and receive the very best medical care available.

Once again, glad you're with us.

Hey, Chris -- Do you mean to tell me that you like BOTH kinds of good music, country AND western? That's what all my Texas buddies used to tell me, anyway.

Luc - Did somebody mention a bum doc? I agree, fire the bum, but first a story:

I know you're not old enough to have seen barnstorming pilots in the early days of aviation (neither am I), but remember seeing movies of them as a kid. The lesson for today is "Remember the Wing Walker." If you remember how he walked across the wing of the old bi-plane, he held onto the wing struts and stepped across. When he could go no farther, he used one hand to keep a grip on a strut. Then he turned and with the other hand reached as far ahead as he could, grabbing another strut. He never let go with the first hand until he had a good grip with the second. I caution you (since you're in a situation like my own) not to fire one doctor until you have met and confirmed the choice of the next. Don't leave yourself without a "monitor" to keep track of things. We don't want the wrong type of surprise, do we?

A spare doc

Hello Steve and thank you for the sound and wise advice. I will only fired the old one once I have tested the new fellow. My current cardiologist might be a great one for some people but I have decided that since he does not have the desired qualities (he is such a cold fish) which is not good for ME.
The head nurse in charge of the Follow-up Clinic Of Valve Replacement at the Heart Institute of Ottawa have a son who is about to start at the University where I work ; actually he will be studying in Music (my departement) and since I am the music librarian he will be in my class. I have already assure her that I will personally take great care of her kid, since she will personally take care of me...
Again a lot of thanks to everyone for the very "hearty welcome". For now I will pull-up a chair, read all the postings, ask questions and get to know everyone.

Hey Steve - Yup - I like country and western, and a lot of other styles of music too. Some of our neighbors get together from time to time and make our own music down in the little barn. I have to admit, I hadn't touched the keyboard since surgery, but a couple of weeks ago I turned it on and found that I could still make it work. I guess the pump didn't kill too many brain cells, and there might again be music emanating from the barn this fall. It's nice to know that. Chris

Auntie...

Auntie...

Weren't Justin Boots originally made in Justin? Are they still?

Y'all are having a party and I was about to miss out....

Take it off -- take it all off, Chris:D What's under that cap??

And Chris, another musician in our group? Must have something to do with rhythmical heart valves...hmmmm

Hey Janie - Don't worry, there's a full head of hair beneath that Luckenbach hat. As to taking it all off, you know it's important to maintain the mystique !!! Who else is a musician on the site ?- It might be hard to get all those mechanical valves beating in synchonization (sp) !!! Aunt Granny and I thought we better check with you before we sheduled the party at your house. Pretty considerate, don't cha think ?

Hi Chris,
Tooted the clarinet in school and have played drums for over 35 years. Glad to hear you're still actively pursuing tunes!

Party In Justin

Party In Justin

Just let me know when, and I will fire up the grill. Just don't expect Southfork. We are more like Green Acres:p

Granny - Thank you dear. Right now we're just dreaming, but if we get serious, we'll sure let you know, and I guarantee that I'll help you out on the grill, and anything else you need. Sure is nice to know that we have friends all over the country isn't it. I may put together a dream trip and see what I can plan out for a meaningful trip all accross the USA to visit as many VR.com members as I can in a reasonable time period. Wouldn't it be nice to put a lot of faces on all of these posts ??

Welcome Luc! The Heart Institute is truly a great place. They seem to hire only the best of the best, at least that's been my experience. Glad you found your way to this site.

Hey, Anne-Marie
