Johns Surgery Date

Hi Everyone

At last we have a date for Johns surgery - its all happening on 25th September, he has to go in on the 24th and hopefully it will be the following morning. I will try and give an update on this site from the hospital computers (I will be staying in the parents accomodation and apparently there is internet access)

John is doing ok, the usual dizziness and tiredness but I think he is getting so used to it now it is 'normal' to him

He will be having Open Heart surgery - a homograft pulmonary valve transplant, this was all explained very well to him (and me!) at his pre op assessment.

Anyway - will keep you posted - Thanks everyone, this site has been a complete godsend

Thanks so much - it means alot.

I have just finished a 4 month placement on an adult Intensive Care unit (am coming to the end of my 2nd year nurse training) so people assume you are 'ready and prepared' for Johns op, but its so different when its your own - I can't help being over emotional at the moment - at the end of the day they are your family and your loved ones and if you could take their pain, you would.

Thanks for the update and the PM. I am so glad that you and the kids got in a vacation before the surgery. John looks amazingly good for his situation. BTW, I had to take a sleeping pill every night for the whole month before Brian's last surgery. I was scared witless! I think that you are doing great and we look forward to hearing about John on the other side of the mountain. We will be sending prayers and good thought your way.

Date Change for surgery

Hi - the hospital have just phoned and John will now be having his surgery next Friday(21st) so we are going in on the Thursday morning - hopefully this time next week he will be done and on the road to recovery.......its all beginning to feel very real and very scarey now.

They moved mine up by one day and I was part glad and part scared. But overall it was better for my peace of mind. Fix the issue even quicker.

Well, we are still on for Johns surgery this Friday - have asked my sister to update on this site in case I can't get to a computer, its all seeming like a surreal dream at the moment and can't quite believe its all happening.

have changed the profile pic as last night I threw a suprise party for John with all his friends and this pic was taken there.....he had no idea and had the best time, I just wanted him to know how many people love him and show him how much we care. Can't believe how many came! We 'nearly' ran out of beer...but it was great and he was thrilled.
