Ross, is that allowed or do you think it'd scare people?
Post away. Just downsize it from the original so the people on dial up connections don't have to wait forever for it to download. Why cover up the truth? People shouldn't be scared of it, if they are, I don't know what to say for them because this is how it is. ;)

Great Job Jim!

Great Job Jim!

Gemma,

Give Jim a big congrats on making it over that mountain. It sounds like his recovery is going great!

Hi Gemma,
It is good to hear about Jims progress. I have been following your posts even though I have not replied to many of them. I am due for another echo with a specialist in echocardiograms next week in Manchester. Hopefully then a decision one way or the other may be made. I hope Jim's recovery is smooth.

All the best

Martin

I'm so glad it is over and he is doing well! Take care of yourself too!

I'm so pleased that Jim is doing well. Take it one day at a time. No recovery is totally smooth and even. Some days will be good and somedays discouraging. Its the long term progress that is important. You take care of yourself too. You seem like a very special person.

Who ever sees Jim please send him my warmest regards . As a matter of fact please give him a hug from me it wont hurt it will be as comforting as hugging that little standby cushion.

Day 4 already!

Day 4 already!

Hi again,
Haven't seen Jim yet today, I'm at work (fortunately very quiet today hence me being on the PC!!!) but going in later to see him. He asked me to come and let you know something of utmost importance - he peed a litre!!! apparently this is something to be proud of:eek:   and he'd been having some problems at first so is very pleased to be in control again:D
Dave - Jim hasn't been given a spirometer yet, or hadn't last night anyway - the guy in the next bed who's a day "ahead" of him got his on Wednesday though so maybe by now Jim's got one too.
His surgeon's assistants stopped by last night and said he should be ok to come home Sunday or Monday, just as soon as his warfarin dosage/INR levels are sorted out. Bit on the low side at the moment but they said this may be due to not doing or eating a lot just yet.

Rick - about worrying about people you've never met, you're right, and it's amazing how much the kindness of strangers can mean at times like this. Just knowing someone else is checking to see how things are going is an amazing feeling. Which really is all I wanted to say for now - THANK YOU EVERYBODY!!!

Hi Gemma-

Getting the "waterworks" going really well is indeed an accomplishment. You can retain a lot of fluid after surgery, and getting rid of it relieves your lungs and pressures on your heart. I'm sure his nurses and docs are pleased. It'll help his breathing a lot.

He's doing so well. Great news.

One litre thats great shakes Jim I know exactly what we talking about it took me almost one week to get to half that Today I am on par with you.......be well take care.

Joey

Gemma,

Congratulations to Jim and to you. It sounds like you're both doing very well. I'll keep you both in my thoughts and prayers.

Just another quick update - I'm amazed at how much better again Jim was yesterday. You would really not believe it had only been 3 days since he was in ICU. He's been wandering up and down the ward spreading the word about VR.com and showing everybody your messages, so don't be surprised if there's an influx of members joining from the north west of England in the next couple of weeks!
He still had the pacing wires in last night which he's finding really annoying - they haven't needed to use them and keep saying "tomorrow we'll take them out" - guess they need to make sure everything's really going as well as it seems. Everything else has been taken out, including that little needle tap thingy they use for taking blood samples - weren't using it any more so he made them get rid of it!
He's climbing the walls in hospital, getting terrible backache from the bed and sitting around so much (saying he's fidgety and impatient is putting it very mildly) so my massage course is coming in handy already!
The physiotherapist is really pleased with how his breathing is coming along, and Jim's been walking round lots already.
All we're waiting for now is his INR to come up a bit - the highest it's been over the last 3 days is 1.3 (target is 2). Still, the surgeon said if he doesn't come home tomorrow it should definitely be Monday.
I think I'm more surprised than anything at how fast he's recovered over the last few days. No doubt there will be bad days and good days ahead, but I'm really in awe of what a good patient he's being!
Watch this space. I'll let you know when he's out:D
Gemma.

Hi Gemma

That is good news,

Tell Jim not to rush things,

Remind him he has had major surgery, as it is easy to forget when you are in hospital, as you are not doing much except wandering around the ward

Love to you both

Jan ( Liverpool Uk )

Ps where did Jim have his surgery ?

Great news about Jim! They took out my pacer wires a few hours before I left the hospital so I'm not surprised that he still has his.

Do remind him about his deep breathing and coughing....and keep an eye on him so he doesn't over-do so soon. He has much healing to do inside.

Get some rest....and thanks so much for the updates. You know how very much they have meant to us.

Gemma keep an eye on him. Early on you make such incredible progress that you can get yourself in a pickle by doing to much. Early on in my recovery I could tell the difference from one day to the next but when things started to slow I got frustrated and really over did it a few times and it would take a couple of days to recover. Slow and steady would be my advice and if he tries to do to much just remind him he just had heart surgery.;)

We will keep praying for ya'll and hope things keep going great.

Rick

Hi, just waiting for a phone call from Jim to let me know if he's going home today!
Jan - he had his surgery done in the Cardiothoracic Centre next to Broadgreen Hospital. The staff there are great - really laid back but if there's any problem at all they are really on the ball and get it sorted quickly.
I am seriously considering locking Jim in his room for a few days to stop him doing too much. Does this seem unreasonable?:p :p :p Only joking - I'm sure his mum will be following him round keeping an eye on him. He's being very sensible, walking lots as recommended, doing all the breathing and coughing stuff, and not putting weight on his arms. He's one of those people who took everything apart as a child to see how it works, so he's taking everything on board that he's told and doing exactly what he's told too. Has been given the going home talk so it's looking hopeful...
I'll post a new thread when he's back home to avoid confusion!
Gemma.
