Well I've put off posting this because if I didn't see it here it wouldn't be happening.
I am six days away from having aortic valve replacement and although not as scared as I was I'm still not calm and totally accepting this.
Keep me in your thoughts and prayers that all goes well.
God will be my by side and I have a supportive husband and family.
Earline

Marie --I also share the same date as you do for Valve replacement surgery (22JAN) and my thoughts are very similar to yours. I have come to grips with the surgery but still have a tough time staying calm.
Here is to wishing you a peaceful weekend and a very successful surgery! Prayers to you and your family!!
I will see you on the other side!! In no time at all we will both be posting on the other side at the post surgery forum!!
Take Care and God bless-Zack

Earline...and Zack, too,
I am happy for you both that your surgery date is approaching and you will be on the other side in just one week! I am 6 weeks post op now and feeling great. I just did my first day of cardio rehab and it feels good to get the muscles moving.

My best thoughts for you are to just spend these next days seeing how relaxed you can get, by calming your mind, breathing, meditation, whatever works for you. It is great practice for the days ahead of the pre-op procedures and day of surgery. And it is true what everyone says, waiting is hard...then the next thing you know you are done and recovering. You have nothing to worry about now, as it is out of your hands and in the good hands of the skilled surgeons.

There is light at the other end of the tunnel and keeping a positive attitude helps you to see it sooner.

All the best for peaceful days ahead and successful surgery.

Betsy

Hey you two, neither of you will calm down until your inside the hospital and they've given you something to calm you down. I was ready to bolt when my wife dropped me at the door and I told her no way, I had to go in with her or it wasn't happening. You know what, it's no easier the second time around either.

Look around once your in there and imagine all of us there with you. We are in spirit and we will continue to help your through the hoops to follow.

Prayers to the both of you and good luck!

Well, it's official Earline, because I've just put you on the calendar!
Pay attention to Ross's words . . . he's got it exactly right. We'll be with you, so don't worry!:)

Good luck to both of you, we will be with you in spirit and will be waiting for your updates from the other side of the mountain. Good luck and God bless.

Ditto what Ross said. Unless you're all drugged up, being calm simply isn't normal. It'll probably seem surreal until you're on the other side. Just remember, lots of us have been through it and can now look back with a sigh of relief. You'll be one of us shortly. Best wishes and good luck.

Glad you posted, Marie and that Mary got you on the calendar so that we can see you through this and be there to congratulate you on the other end- and it will be congratulations!!!

Thank you for all of your comforting words and I'll remember that all of you are with me through this. I've read where some people are calm a few days before so I'm glad to hear that there are just as many that aren't. I'll be looking for that something that will calm me down. I just want to chicken out but I know I won't. Again thanks for all of the support. You are much appreciated. Earline

Oh, wow....it's happening!
Try to enjoy your weekend and keep distracted. Once you are in the hospital give yourself up to the medical team and get on with it. Marie and Zack, there are a lot of people here who will be with you spiritually.:)
Best wishes.

Ditto, ditto, ditto...

...doing this open heart surgery stuff really requires digging deep for the courage to go through with it. Thank God, my wife was brave enough for both of us. I'm not sure I could've done it without her. I was suggesting that we just skip it until they wheeled me into the OR. I couldn't talk the crew in the OR out of it either.

We'll be here.

Ditto for me too.
Although I didn't have time to think about surgery, Ross has said it nicely.
Prayers and well wishes to both of you.

Best wishes and prayers to you both. I hope you can find some calmness. I kept thinking on any given day the week prior to surgery that one week from today it will be over and I will already be 2, 3, 4, whatever days into my recovery. Once it's done, it will feel like a huge load lifted off your shoulders. Take care. You'll be on the other side very soon.
Jean
