Hi
a friend of mine here in Oz sent me a question privately (not on this forum) about a fault he's having with a new (meaning still under warranty) Coaguchek INRange. It seems to be having a boot problem. I'm curious if this is going to be an emerging problem with these or if his is a rare occasion. This is the first error of its nature I've hear of with anything in the Coaguchek series.

Personally I'm pretty happy with my previous (still sold) model and can forgoe the "graph" for reliability (and my spreadsheet as data backup)

turns out to be inferior grade batteries.

Lesson is: Don't use cheap crap batteries just because your saving money.

(*the perils of trying to fault find from afar: you have to ask so many questions, never end up asking the right ones)

With my meter I had some problems and called Roche. They diagnosed it over the phone. Told me it could be bad batteries or a bad meter. They said to replace them with newly bought original brand of batteries (no reason given.) I did and it worked.

The ROCHE support group is Extremely Responsive to inquiries and their support is excellent, gave me peace of mind when i had some doubts about my meter working fine or not; they sent me a test kit to verify the meter was all good, and it was. For me it was impressive backing of their product, of course, is not made in some communist country that produces tons of junk one day we must stop buying all at once,

Just curious. I have also a Roche meter. How does the test kit work? What made you think maybe yours was not working? Thank you.

I spoke today with an employee at a hospital and he told me that while the old roche model made unlimited measurements the last model makes up to 600 and then has to go to the company for inspection otherwise it can not work.
I have not heard it again, does anyone know anything more? If so then buying CoaguChek INRange from ebay will be a problem because then the company will see in which country it was originally sold.
I will try to get the company tomorrow, maybe I will find out.

wow ... my XS has made more than 2 measurements per week for 10 years so I'd be nearly on my second INRange ... I'll be sticking with the XS thanks.

I think that the INRange brings little to my personal table of needs.

I called the dealership today to ask if what I was told about the 600 measurements was true.
The answer is that the device has software that judges if a service needs to be done. I was told that it will send a message that there are 50 meters left, then it must be sent to the dealership for service and restart of the meter.
It would be good for someone else from another country to ask the representative to see what they will say.

Newer update, because I was not satisfied with what the clerk told me and because I work in the medical field I got the director of servies.
A very kind man answered me and gave me general information.
1. This with the 600 measurements was valid for the first inr rance devices dating back to around 2014 because they were given to the hospitals and within a short period of time they reached this limit and roche made it 5000. so a private user
who counts 4 times a month will post at 104 years old lol.
2.Regarding the deviation, apart from what we know and have discussed here many times who told me that it is correct and that the deviation from the lab can reach 20% which has to do with the different method of measuring photochemical versus mechanical optical lab vs roche there is a serious factor.
Laboratories based on protocol must start and complete the measurement process within one hour of receipt. examinations by many patients of the day if it is a remote area.
For this reason there are differences in my deviation he said the terminology (pre-measurement preparation)
Recommendation of personal to check if the laboratory follows the protocol.
Ι apologize once again for not knowing my English well.

hmmm
4 times a month = 48 times a year
600 / 48 = 12.5 years

So unless the guy using the INRange started at 92 I think the fella you spoke to blew you off (or my maths skills need a brush up).

Personally I measure weekly (as a prudent person does) and last I looked there was 52 weeks in a year. So that brings it down to 11.53 years.

But its worse, because
  • I test mid week if I'm concerned about a trend,
  • test daily around a procedure
  • test every second day if I'm starting a new medication which I know is disposed of by P450
  • test every second day if I'm data gathering something else
So ... I'll be sticking with the simpler model

Oh, and I got the INR results from the Labs I had done on the 16th today.
  • Coaguchek = 3.2
  • Lab = 3.0
Given known (*carefully done experimental) data about the XS

which shows a higher bias on the XS as your INR goes out of range high ...

I'm calling that quite acceptable (again {and I do this every year or so, but as it happens I've done it twice in the last 3 months})

Pretty happy with this XS that I've had since 2012

:D You saw that I am right about my English, I meant in 5000 measurements 4Χ12 = 48 per year
5000/48 = 104,16 years.

The first CoaguChek INRange sold had a capacity of 600 measurements then they had to go to the service for zeroing and restarting. But because it was used in clinics, the 600 measurements were made very quickly, so the company increased the number of uses to 5000 for those of us who use the device at home, it will probably break down before we do the 5000 measurements.

I have recently developed a problem with my INRange meter.
When I put a blob of blood on the testing strip and the countdown
begins, nothing happens, it just runs down the counter and at the end
gives me an error saying no blood was detected .
I have repeated with a different batch of test strips and still get
the same result.
I am introducing a sufficient amount of blood, so that isn't the problem

I'm going to phone up Roche Diagnostics tomorrow to see if they can help me with this.
If anyone has any ideas what the problem might be, let me know (y)

Yea you normally get error code 5 for not enough blood, the fact it just counts down to nothing is odd, clearly it knows the strip is in there but isn’t detecting the sample. I guess you have tried new batteries….
I get error 6 when my batteries are getting down even though the meter says they are fine.

With the first strip I used I got a general error message, and then after using new strips I got the problem described with the countdown just running down. The batteries are new so it's definitely not that

If you changed the batteries and cleaned the tape slot after removing the blue cap and the problem persists, then it will have to be serviced.
