Cat, you are probly right, everything has been way to easy as far as my INR numbers. I would imagine on one of these check ups I will have a surprise.

I've been sick, off and on, for several months. Because of the meds and my diet, My INR is roming all over the place. Remember now, I take Coumadin for A-Fib. And my valves are just "duckey!"

When I began Coumadin in 2005, I used 6.0 per day, for a long time. Then, I went to alternating 5.0 and 6.0 daily. My range is 2.0 to 3.0. I am happy as a piggie in the mud if my INR is between 2.5 and 4.5

I don't find that diet is a huge factor in my INR results. But, oh baby, the drugs do all sorts of nasty things for me. Al and I have both been into the 7.0's and 8-9.0s and that scared me witless.

Since we test weekly, I really don't get too bent out of shape....but I think it is a real pain for my dear doctor. Since I live 1/2 mile from his office, if I have a very, very high or low INR, he does a blood draw.

Kind regards,
Blanche

Lowest we can get here is 1mg.

Are your 1mg tablets scored down the middle? If so, you can use a pill cutter (available from chemists shops etc) or just a knife, and cut them in half. That's what I do.

Well yes we can, but we can't get 1/2 mg tablets.

It seemed obvious to me to cut the 1mg tablets in half if I wanted to take 6.5mg per night :) but when I told the lady doctor at the hospital ED that was what I did, she looked at me blankly and said, "don't do it like that, take 6mg/7mg on alternative nights".....
Well, for me it is just easier to take the same dose every night rather than chopping and changing and keeping a diary, ticking off each night etc - you end up taking the correct amount either way, so who says her way is better, lol:)
She didn't agree though. But I still do it my way:):)

Bridgette:

I do the same as you. I don't mind halving the tablets, since they're scored.

I just got through giving a kitten 2 months of a medication, starting with 1/8 tablet X 7, then off 7 days, then on again. Had to reweigh her and adjust the split tablets as her weight increased.

Halving 1mg warfarin tablets is a breeze compared to that!
