Any tips please to get rid of flys, its not just my house, so please dont think i am dirty:D . All the houses in my avenue have got them, i have never seen so many flys in my life. Iam using fly spray and my husband is going to bring some sticky strips home. They are driving me mad and i dont want to cook, while there is so many, so any ideas please. Paula

Fly sticky strips are usually the most effective. However, they do make this electric tennis racket like thing. It looks like a small tennis racket except that the strings are metal instead of cat-gut. You charge it up and turn it on and a low elctrical current moves through the metal strings. Then you can swing away at all the flies and fry them. It is very satisfying even if pehraps less effective than the sticky stuff.

you know this reminds me when I was young I grew up in an older farmhouse and from time to time we would get a bat in the house, yuck, anyway they best way to get them was whack them w/ a tennis raquest since their radar would go right thru it. hmm wonder what an electric one would do to a bat

I would get some in Miami when rain was coming. Then they'd leave when rains came.

If your neighborhood is inundated with flies, there is a reason and I would think a call to your health dept might bring some response - like a visit to your area. There has to be something that is causing them to multiply. Doesn't hurt to ask.

Yes, it is a bumper crop of flies this year.
I live in a farm house built in 1894........we've got flies!

Don't use sprays; very toxic and unhealthy.
The sticky tapes hung in the kitchen windows work great.

And if you get a bat in your house, get a big old towel, gently pick up the bat and return it to the outdoors. They are good little critters who eat thousands of flies every night.

All right!!! Now what I am about to tell you is not just an ?old wife?s tale (or tail)? or a ?BUBBA story---wink----wink?. It is the honest to God truth.

We were shopping at the various yard sales in Alabama a couple of summers ago. We stopped at one stand where they had all these clear bags of water hanging around the stand. My wife (being the nosy one) put in words what we were all thinking to ourselves ?What are all the bags of water for?????

The lady (with a straight face I might add) said it was to keep the flys away. YEAH RIGHT!!!!! I guess she sensed the looks of doubt on our faces. :p She said ?well do you see any flys around????? The answer was ?NO!!!!!? She said it had something to do with the reflections from the water in the bags.

OK, are you still with me. Bubba, being the skeptic, put it in the list of ?facts to forget?. Well, we had been having problems with flys around the Dawg pens, even some of the biting horse flys. OUCH!!!! My wife insisted (read DEMANDED---HANDS ON HIPS---LOOK OUT) I try the bags around the Dawg pen. Reluctantly I filled several sandwich sized bags (and a couple of bigger ones for good measure) half full with water and hung them around the Dawg pen. At this point I was glad to live in the country and don?t see too many visitors. How would I ever explain this to Earl!!!!

Guess what, the flys disappeared. Just a couple of strays but nothing like before. It could have been the wind, change in temp or something else, BUT the flys were gone. Well, the cuss words I uttered under my breath (didn?t want the wife to hear) might have drove them off too. I can?t explain it but it seemed to work. No more trouble with flys that summer.

THIS IS MY STORY AND I?M STICKING TO IT!!!!!

Do a GOOGLE for "bags of water for flys" iff'n you don't believe me.

May you be fly free and,

May God Bless,

Bubba :)

BUBBA DON'T MAKE NOTHIN' UP!!!! NO SIR REE BOB!!!!!:p  ;) ;)

Well, might stretch the truth a LITTLE, but not this time!!!!

DANG, IT'S MIDNIGHT!!!!!!!

And I gotta get up at 4:30 AHM (A'h H E Double Hockey Sticks, Morning).

Good night to all,

May God Bless,

Bubba :p :p :)

Well the sticky strips are working, they dont look very nice thow, i still have more than i would like, flying around. Iam just about willing to try anything, i may just give the water a go. I do have a electric fly zapper but guess what the flys dont go on it, it lights up blue but maybe faulty? My husband will think im crackers hanging bags of water up:D . I'll let you know if it works.
