Has anyone tried to get insurance rate reductions after valve replacement?

I was issued a rated policy because I had an anneurysm. Well, I have no anneurysm anymore and I have a years run time on the prosthesis! I also have two valves that work better than the originals were at the time the policy was written. What do actuarials consider when assessing the risk of mortality? It seems to me that the mortality risk would be significantly reduced after a successful climb and some uneventful runtime afterward.

I'm afraid the insurance companies don't follow that logic. If you've had heart surgery, you're considered a greater risk -- even though the surgery improved your health.

I hope you find out differently.

Thanks Bob!

The agent told me not to get my hopes up but that the actuarials had OK to taking a look at my case. The agent said this was a positive sign because they could have just rejected it w/o even taking a look.

I'm praying for another miracle. I'll keep you posted.

Doug,

I agree with your logic. We SHOULD be rewarded for taking the steps -- including, the elective surgery -- to improve our health. But my experience with insurance companies hasn't been all that happy.

However, I hope this works out for you. Do let us know.
