My husband is looking at the possiblity of an aortic valve replacement in the Tacoma, Washington area. Most information on this site seems to be from people living in other parts of the country. Although of great help information-wise to me so far, does anyone have input on this procedure done in Tacoma and how it went? Who did it? Where done? Thanks.

We've got members in Washington state; hopefully they'll be along soon to answer your question.

While I have no knowledge of anyone in Washington state I would like to say hi & welcome. You've found an excellent resource here for the multitude of questions you and your hubby have/will have. I know there are Washingtonians around - You should hear from someone fairly soon.

Welcome. I, too, cannot help about Washington info but I wanted to say hi.

I know that Joy Paulson is from Washington state. You might want to e-mail her or send her a PM. (Private Message)
I had my Aortic Valve replaced in 8/2000 with a mechanical valve. I had a re-do within 11 days. Am on Coumadin but am doing okay after 5 years. Read my story.

I have had two aortic valves replaced in the seattle area. I know nothing about Tacoma, but if you are looking to stay in the state I would head up the road to Seattle. Depends on your choice for replacement, if you want a mechanical valve I would check with Dr. Aldea at the university of washington medical center. If you are looking for a pig or cow valve I would check with Dr. Davis or Dr. Gartman at sweedish medical center. Although I had complicatiopns with both my surgeries I felt that it was not the fault of the dr.'s or their institutions. Both are very good hospitals and all three doctors are very experienced and supposed to be the top in the area. Good luck! Please feel free to contact me with any further questions.

Johnny Stephens had his surgery in Seattle. You could try sending him a PM also.

head north!

Hi. If it were me I wouldn't hesitate to book myself into UW or Swedish. Just seems like they'd be more experienced and have a more modern facility. I'm down in Portland and will be happy enough here, but if I had any doubt (or have any doubt when my time comes) Seattle would probably be my next stop. You're so close, really.

Keep us posted. Good luck!!

:) Marguerite
