Dear Friends,
I'm off to Birmingham tomorrow afternoon for a little pre-surgery bash with my husband and entourage and will spend the night with my best friend who lives there. I'll be admitted to UAB at 11:00am on Tuesday for pre-op stuff and the surgery will be done sometime on Wed, the 25th.
This was the farthest thing from my mind when I got the news on 12/22 that OHS was in my immediate future. I am more grateful than I can say for having stumbled upon the wonderful resource of VR.com (thank goodness for Hank and Ross). All of you (and I think I've read 90% of the posts from the beginning) have participated in adding to my education, my sense of acceptance of this surgery and my knowledge of what to expect through the various phases of my recovery. You have calmed my fears and given me guidance to find my way through this challenging experience and, more often than not, given me a good laugh in the process. For all these gifts, I offer my heartfelt thanks. But most of all, I thank each one of you for inviting me into such a nurturing and supportive environment. Blanche DuBois had it right about "the kindness of strangers."
For those of you who will be going into surgery before I may get home and can give you a proper send-off (Sandy, Dale, Al G., Kylene, Lee (cath), Shelba and Candy) I'll be thinking of each of you and looking forward to commiserating on our recoveries. For the rest of you, WHEREVER you are in your heart story, I'm on your side and in your corner. And Ross, save me a piece of b'day cake!
Sue
