Hi folks. Just thought i'd let you know that i'm home. I went into hospital Tuesday afternoon for my pre-op tests, which revealed i had a temperture of 37.9 degrees. I was showered, shaved and gowned for theatre first thing yesterday morning, but my surgeon decided to postpone until the 21st. So today he sent me home with antibiotics and a request to stay off my dirtbike and rest.
Phil

Jeez, I've heard of people getting to the hospital and being sent home (actually it happened to Jim) but to be shaved and ready to go - that's tough!
Hope the antibiotics do the trick and all goes according to plan on the 21st.
Gemma.

I'm so sorry I know how frustrating it is when you are ready to just have it done and over w/. Justin's first was postponed 3 times, the first time was the day before because he got sick too, the other 2 times were the surgeon, so we went somewhere else.
So make the best of it, relax enjoy spending time w/ loved ones, just make sure they are healthy loved ones lol, Lyn

ARGH!!!! I guess if they send you home there's nothing you can do, but that would really be a let-down.

Stay healthy and stay away from people with colds and stuff. And have some fun during your "reprieve".

BUMMER!!!!!

I guess you at least won't have to "shave" for a while  . But you don't want to risk having complications from the fever. So take those antibiotics, get rid of those bugs and get back in there :D .

Prayers and good thoughts continue your way.

May God Bless,

Danny

So sorry to hear of the postponement but "better to be safe..........

Please stay upbeat and the 21st will be here before you know it.

Sorry to hear about the surgery being moved (and your fever!!) Now that has to be freaky to make it that far and get sent home. You are now one week ahead of us Phil! Nate is still on for the 29th. It must be frustrating, but in our family now, the fever thing is a big deal (endocarditis in July) I agree with Georgia, go off and have some fun :)

This is phils son. He had the operation early yesterday morning and he came through it absolutly fine. One thing that comforted me was the fact that there were men there of about 80 years of age who had already had it done, so i knew he'd be OK. I went to see him tonight and he was happy it is over and would like to thank everyone for their support pre-operation. He said to tell everyone who is having it done, not to worry. Love you loads Dad, Ben.

Ben, thanks for posting. Phil, the worst is definitely over. Welcome to this side. Hope you're feeling better really soon and you can blow that pop stand soonest.

Thanks for posting for your Dad, Ben. Please give him our best wishes for a speedy and uneventful recovery.

Ben:

Thanks for posting about your dad. Glad to hear he's sailed through surgery.

My sister has a friend whose mom had VR @ age 87 (!!!!!!!!!!!!!!) recently. Did so well, they booted her out of the hospital and she went straight home -- to recuperate by herself. Didn't want others to stay w/ her. When I voiced concern about that, I was told that friends & relatives are popping in & out of the house all day long.
Seems she got some new-fangled porcine valve. Haven't found out manufacturer yet.

So glad to hear that Phil is doing good. I learned something when I saw my cardiologist last week, some of you probably already know it. I thought of it when Cat Womann mentioned the 87 year old. Any how, he told me that the younger that you are when you have OHS the more pain you have because of your nerve endings. He said the nerve endings in older people are not as sensitive.. He said the 80 + year olds sail right thru it!!!! Rose

You should have gone at 37.9,degrees. that frozen body status. Brrr. I know you meant a high fever. Yes, my surgeon had to postpone my surgery during a fever spike, 101. Second, a little, 100, but went with the surgery. Did fine then. Better to be safe than sirry with chance of having infection after surgery. Good luck on the second try.

Ben,

Thanks for letting us know. My best to Phil and your entire family.

Hi Ben,

Thanks for the good news about your dad :) I'm sure he'll be back motocrossing with you in a few months (well, maybe spring when it's warmer!).

Tell him we all said hi and well done! Oh, and if you want to print all our replies off for him to read (cos I know it gets a bit boring in hospitals- my boyfriend Jim was nearly climbing the walls after about 3 days in there!), go to where it says "Thread tools" at the top of the page and click on it, then select "Show Printable Version" - that way you get just our replies without pictures and stuff.

Take care,

Gemma.
