Hi all -

Just a quick message to let you know everything went well with my AVR on Friday. I was discharged Monday morning. Days go by fast with my 3 "nurses" (children - 11, 9, and 6) in the morning and at night (they are at camp during the day). So far so good...! More later (with including some humor).

Thanks for getting me to the post-surgery forum!

*FANTASTIC news Caroline. How wonderful. Your kids must be soo happy to have you home. Best Wishes for a smooth uneventful recovery. Blessings.

Glad to have you in the post surgery forum!!!! I wish for you to have a good recovery and enjoy every moment with the little ones!!!

Wow! Surgery on Friday and home on Monday! You must be a superwoman.

That is is the quickest turn around I've heard of. My surgery is Friday, July 6, and if they let me go on Monday, I will be ecstatic!

Take it slow and enjoy your kids!

So glad to hear you are home and all went well! I have been anxiously awaiting your post-surgery post as well.
Take it easy-even if you feel up to it, resist any urges to do the "mom thing" for a while.
Keep us posted on the smooth recovery and hopefully, you had a nice little package containing an awful shirt for your homecoming :).

take care,
Karen

Thanks!

Thanks!

Yes - the recovery is boring!!! :) I went to the cardiologist today - all is well and managed to get them to drop my beta blocker to 25 mg once a day (I have always had low blood pressure and had a transfusion and lots of meds in the hospital due to low bp).

I did participate in the AF study but did not go into AF... so nothing to report there.

OK - I promised some funny things. During the pre-admission questions, the admitting nurse asked me if I have used a "backhoe" in the past year... My husband heard the same thing, but only the nurse had said "tobacco". And I had not even started any medication yet!!! Yikes! The rest of the day, my husband and I kept looking at each other and saying "backhoe" and cracking up.

Then on the morning of my surgery, my husband was in the waiting room with a woman who's husband was in the other surgerical room also getting a valve replacement. She was getting regular updates and my husband received none. After 2 hours, the surgeon came in and said they were waiting for the results of a pregancy test... Oops - someone forget to do it ahead of time.

When waking up after surgery, I apparently was not the best patient and the nurse threatened to videotape me...! Don't worry, I calmed down and she and I were the best of friends!

The day after surgery, I still could not eat solids (for some reason the dinner right after surgery they sent me a solid tray), so I asked for jello to be sent up from the cafetaria. So the woman from the cafetaria comes up and plops a 4 pack of green jello on my tray with no spoon. I could not really use my arms and was staring at the packages of jello for about 10 minutes wondering how I was going to open it and if I could get it open, how was I going to eat it? (Yes, I could have called the nurse but I did not want to bother them with something trivial and my husband went to make a call and would be back soon). My cardiologist comes in and and looks at me staring at the 4 pack of green jello and no spoon and says "Green works better." I thought about this for a little while (drugs are a great thing) and then burst out laughing "You're lying!"

And that is "The rest of the story"!

So glad you are having a boring recovery and enjoyed your tales from the hospital and your sense of humor- keep up the good work, Caroline!

Caroline,

Surgery on Friday and home on Monday? Are you sure you had OHS? Boy, that green jello must really work wonders! ;) Just kidding.... welcome to this side of the mountain!
