Yaps

Since my surgery two years ago, Ive had a craving for crushed ice. Its like that first cup I had in ICU was pure ambrosia, and lol..still crave it.
My daughter has had two abalations, and she is also an ice addict, so I was wondering if any here also do this.
Any response's would be appreciated, as I am very curious.
Thanks,Yaps

Yep,

Still am 25 years later. I am also addicted to the ginger ale they gave me after the tube came out. Didn't even like ginger ale before that moment.

I did not get ice, just cold water. The first thing I had that had any flavor was Italian Ice, or what is sometimes called Italian Lemonade. For weeks after the surgery I craved it, and I still do when the weather is hot.

I have not had surgery yet, but I have always had the bad habit of eating ice. My wife and my dentist always scold me for it, but I stil go to the freezer, grab a cube and start chomping on it.

Thankyou Geebee, did you ever wonder why you crave it?
Ive had many surgeries throughout my life..tonsils, tubal, etc..and never did this. I am attempting to see if there is a correlation. Thankyou for yor response's, love the pup

Yaps,
I've been an ice addict for years and years. I found out a long time ago that mine is related to anemia. When my iron levels are low (and they've been below 8 before) the craving is nonstop.
I really worked on keeping my iron up before surgery, and it hovered around 11-12 throughout. No ice cravings for awhile now. It's nice to be temporarily free of my addiction!

Ive considered that, but they have ran every kind of test on me ...never anything said of anemia.. , hence this poll

I didnt crave Ice till my abilations were done, but I am badly anemic.. below 6 at times and one time at 4, never been over 8 Dr says if I keep it up, will give me transfusions, and Cardio DR says thats why i now have a murmur due to my anemia. Still have my ice tho.. sitting here with my cup now, go thru a bag of crushed ice by myself in 5 days or less. depending if I am off or not, I take Iron tablets, potassium, Magnisium, and BP meds, and still I am so tired all the time.. sigh, and here I wanted to have my tubaligation reversed.. I really do,,sigh something to think about...

Yaps,
They rarely do mention anemia unless they're specifically looking for it. Next time you have blood work, check out your numbers.
I've fought a running battle for years over this one.

Apparently we are Iron deficient people? I cannot have a lot of iron because of this lung disease. My body tends to store more then it needs.

After reading some on that site Ross, I wonder could someone be bleeding internally, but not know?
This has been with me since 2003, and Ive had approx 10 other caths since then  , wouldnt someone had noticed, or should I bring it to their attention? I mean I eat it nonstop, in the am to the pm
 !!

That link proves my point about my situation!
Unfortunately, they've never found any iron supplement that I can take without throwing it back up.

I've learned to check all nutritional labels searching for RDA iron percentages, and I have managed to put a piece meal diet together that's high in iron.

Most cereal is now heavily iron fortified; Mini-Wheats has 90%of the iron RDA in a one bowl serving. :)
I know, too much information! Back to ice! :p :p :p

My other big vise was Gatorade. My wife use to crush a full glass of ice and lace it with Gatorade. Still have it as a night time snack today.

I like it when your teeth finally get cold enough to where you can crunch down hard on the ice and make an ice cube in your mouth with all the crushed pieces.

Always ask myself why I did that though once my mouth thaws out ... teeth always tingle for awhile after that.

I was always told that chewing ice was a sign of sexual frustration. (please Mr. Moderator, don't censor me :) It is the truth, I'm not making it up).

Seriously, chewing ice cubes can crack your teeth. Not a great experience for those of us on Coumadin.

Well then, that explains what my problem is. I've been sexually frustrated for nearly a decade now. :)
