I will be traveling to Stanford to have Dr. Craig Miller do the surgery. I'm leaning towards a valve sparing aortic replacement (he says that I'm a good candidate in spite of my bicuspid aortic valve), but I haven't made a final decision yet. Any advice from those who have had a valve sparing procedure with a bicuspid valve would be appreciated!

(Mary added me to the calendar already. Thanks!)

Wishing you the best on the 11th & hope you have a quick, uneventful recovery. Good luck & God Bless

welcome to the group. I don't have any advice for that valve. I had the other side of the heart worked on. Good luck to you. We are here for any questions you have.

Yep, same here, no advice (sorry) but best wishes and good luck and congrats on setting your surgery date! June 11 is when I'll get all my test results so I am hoping it's a good luck day :)

Well Reddog you are at a prefect hospital and have a great Dr. I had mine done at Stanford and they were great. :) I have both mechanical so can't help you with making a decision on valves. I'm sure you've done your research so what ever you decided will be what you need.
I will keep you in my thoughts and prayers keep us updated when you can.
God Bless!!
Crystal :)

Congratulations on scheduling your surgery with Dr. Miller. He did my valve and root sparring ascending aorta and arch replacement in Feb. My BAV had a very minor leak but was not in need of replacement at that time. I am 35 years old and did not want to be on blood thinners as I am looking to get pregnant in the future. After my surgery, there is only a "trace" leak of the BAV and Dr. Miller reconfirmed that the valve was in too good of shape to replace. He thinks it will last 10-20 more years. Which I am hoping they will have perfected valve replacement by catheter by then.
I cannot say enough of great things about Dr. Miller and his team - you will be in great hands! Be sure to schedule the hospital massages when you get out of ICU. These significantly helped my back and shoulder aches and pains. I will be thinking of you!

Reddog, wishes for great success on your 6/11 surgery are being sent your way...by everyone on this site, I'm sure. Physically, the surgery will probably knock you on your rear, but in a short time you'll be able to dust off and be up on your feet again. Lots of thoughts and great wishes are being sent your way.
