They are getting ready to leave for the season. I got a chance to get another "roosting" humming bird. I have taken some pictures of humming birds feeding at various flowers, but nothing good enough to keep so far.

Heck if I even had a shot of one roosting for a moment, I'd be elated. We used to see lots of them here. Not true anymore.

Nice. We are just now getting a steady showing!! I have 6 feeders up and have counted 5 feeding at one time. They were late this year. Poor things, to damn hot to fly away:eek:

I love the hummers. I used to put out feeders and they'd stay here til late Sept and then disappear when their goose taxi was overhead. I think we got the same ones back every year. They'd hunt the feeders if I hadn't got round to hanging them so they must've remembered where they had been (the feeders). I took movies of them.

We haven't had any wrens this year and each year in the past we had bunches of them around - all nesting. I think the fires in Fl/Ga killed many and we had smoke in our neighborhood from those fires and it probably sent them away from us. Even now, I don't hear the wrens. Other birds we generally have are scarce.

That's a beautiful picture, Dennis. It's hard to get them sitting - they just flit around and don't sit for long. Thanks for sharing.

If I had any idea how to attach a picture to a post, I would show you the little guy sitting on my daughter's hand for a very long time. She was even feeding the bird with her fingers. She got a lot of great shots of this one both in her hand and sitting on the bushes.

Stop making excuses and learn. :D

Rich,
If you want to send it to me via email, I can reduce the size so it will fit, send it back to you, and explain how to attach it to a post. It's not hard; just a little complicated until you've done it once or twice. If you decide you want to try, send me a PM and I'll give you my address.

Dennis,
It is a great picture! Thanks for sharing it.

I have a few that Rich sent and I'd like to post. They are great too!

Here's another one in hand, and one perched on a blossom. Amazing!

Thanks Mary,
I'm glad we could share these pictures.
I guess the little guy was on one of her bushes but then he started to get a little woozy. Apparently she found out later that if they get too much nectar, they essentially get drunk.
So she let the bird sit in her hand for quite a long time.
Eventually the little guy sobered up and finally flew away.
It was pretty cool.

Great Pics!

Great Pics!

Dennis and Rich, those are wonderful shots! Rich don't feel bad, I can't figure it out either. I send them with emails, and can post them on the web, but have no clue how to include them in a post. Perhaps the others will enlighten us... Thanks, Brian

Love the hummingbird photos! I just purchased a 2nd large feeder today, in hopes to slow some of the fighting going on at my one feeder - reminds me so much of the battle scenes from Stars Wars with Tye Fighters and X wings.

All I have here are the red throated variety.
