Praying for you

Praying for you

and for your dear husband. I'll second Lynns suggestion of having a doctor that specializes in pain control. Is he still taking oral meds or have they put him on patches? We get into arguments with the pharmacy sometimes because of the doses we give on our unit--they think we're overdosing patients but that's what they need to get control.
Praline, if you have talked to hospice at all they are (at least here in Louisville) probably the experts in pain control. So often we see Hospice not getting involved until it is so late in the process that their services can't be appreciated. I'm sorry if I'm out of line suggesting this but being in Hospice doesn't mean you've given up, and it also opens up many new support avenues for both the patient and the caregivers.
Hugs to you, Praline, I know how hard this must be for you and your sweetheart.

God Bless you both...
I pray...may your hubby's comfort in his new bed continue and that his pain meds are quickly adjusted to suit his needs...

I echo this statement, although I'm not a medical professional. My wife's father benefitted greatly from hospice admitting him to their center in the hospital and getting his pain medicines straightened out; he was on the wrong meds/wrong doses. He was sent home with his pain under control and actually was back to himself mentally. It really made the rest of his life much better. Other than the pain issue, they were SO helpful in many ways such as providing his medicine and delivering them to the house.

Still thinking of you and your husband Prailine; praying for exactly what your husband needs in pain relief.

In the Sunday chat, I had mentioned Fentanyl. I ran across this news of phase 3 trials for a fentanyl product, intended to be used in conjuntion with other pain meds for breakthrough pain.

There are already several fentanyl producs on the market. If your husband is having bouts of pain, even with his current pain medications, maybe one of his doctors would consider adding a "sometimes" fentanyl dose:
Cephalon Drug Eases Breakthrough Cancer, Nerve Pain
This Cephalon press release was covered by the Philadelphia Inquirer, Reuters, Bloomberg, The Pink Sheet and more
Cephalon presented positive data from two late-stage trials of pain treatment Fentora (fentanyl) on Monday that found the drug eased flare-ups of nerve and cancer pain within 10 minutes in patients not helped by other medicines. <http://www.medicalnewstoday.com/medicalnews.php?newsid=60354>
You and your husband are in my thoughts.

Praline -

These times are so difficult for you and your husband; I'm glad he is able to be home with you.

Hello, dear Praline. You and your husband are often in my thoughts.

We had hospice for six months. They became part of the family, gave my dear Joe baths, changed his bed, gave him cream rub downs, told him jokes, visited with him and came any time of day or night. They have a counselor, minister if you want, nurse, an aide. I had his hospital bed installed in the living room so that he could be a part of everything that was going on.

To help the pain med work better, he was given ativan. I put it under his tongue and it melted quickly, apparently with no bad taste. They told me it would ease him. It seemed to help, given along he pain meds. Ask his dr about it.

I know what you are going through. It's so hard, but you will bear up and I pray God gives you strength. Blessings.....

Praline, you and your husband are at the top of my prayer list. Hugs coming your way and may God's arms be around you both at this time.
