A couple of nights ago, I was bugging everyone for sleeping pill advice, Thanks for your input. Because Bill had so much trouble breathing, I called the lung doc. He prescribed different nebulizer meds without seeing him. He was no better today, and stilll hadn't slept. Called the surgeon, and they sent us out to the hospital for xray and they took 2 liters of fluid from around his lungs. He hadn't had an xray since the 12th, and he was dismissed on the 16th. The dr. said he had never taken that much fluid from anyone. I am pretty upset about this, but he is sleeping lilke a baby now for the first time since surgery. I'm thanking God .

Good news. It's too bad this happened but you are through it now. Lets just pray that the rest of his recovery will be uneventful.

Geez!! Glad to hear your hubby is feeling better. No wonder he couldn't sleep. Shame on the lung dr for not seeing him. I would give him a call and tell him about the fluid and give him a piece of my mind. Good thing you are an advocate for your hubby. He is lucky to have you. Kathy H

Ditto to Kathy's advice - let that dr. know he really missed something. I'm glad he's doing better and was able to finally sleep. Are you able to sleep too? This has been hard on you as well.

I'm so glad you kept pursuing an answer for your husband. No wonder he wasn't sleeping. He must have been very short of breath. Your story points up how important it is for people to be strong advocates, If your husband had been ignored much longer, he might have ended up in the hospital. It's scary to think that help wasn't immediately forthcoming for your husband. Good for you, you did the right thing.

It would be a good idea for your husband to weigh himself each morning before eating and w/o clothing so you can keep track of any potential fluid buildup, and nip it in the bud before it gets too far afield. It might be the only time he has fluid problems, but it might not. So the simple act of him weighing himself can help you keep track of what is going on. When fluid is starting to build up, my husband's cardiologists have told us to call if there is a weight gain of 3 pounds overnight or 5 pounds over a couple of days. That seems to indicate fluid buildup rather than normal weight gain. That way you can call and get instructions from the doctor.

Hope this never happens again for your husband.

here'sto a good night sleep!!!

here'sto a good night sleep!!!

hi , sorry to hear about your hubby, i hope he gets better soon, but could you please tell me what type of surgery he has had done. My partner had a MV repair 9 weeks ago and she may need to have surgery again as the surgeon repaired the vavle too tight, so i can understand about the sleepless nights and the worrying, nancy said to weight yourself in the morning which is good advice, but now unfortunetly if it happens again if this happens again you will know what to do straightaway.

Keep smiling it does get better.

If he realy missed something he would be dead.
Second of all you had a problem, you went to him for help, apparently with a preconcieved idea of how things are going to go, now you are unhappy and want to dump on him. I suggest people rethink things. I have had things go wrong many many times. Not once did I sue. Because I had a problem and ultimately they fixed it. Even though in one of them they I was damaged to the point it took 8 years more for it to heal. And I harbor NO ill feelings towards the woman.

tracking weight

tracking weight

To answer the questions, my husband had avr and a double by-pass. With the weight, we were tracking it first thing in the morning, and he lost a pound to a pound and a half each day he was home. I believe he had the fluid from before he left the hospital. We were told to take a lasix if he gained 2 pounds, or had trouble breathing. He wasn't having any more trouble breathing than he was having in the hospital. Hindsight is always 20/20, and I wish I had pushed for more answers before we came home, but I thought because of his lung problems, it was just going to take longer.
