Health Fair

Health Fair

Our gated community, here at Skylake, where I live had a Health Fair today for residents. (most who are age 50 and above) Over half of them winter in Fla..My point..When I drove out today to go down and walk at our village community center.(great walking trails, marked off for distance) I was shocked at the number of cars parked everywhere around our clubhouse. From 8 a.m. until 1 p.m.... They had a doctor and several nurses to help out. Neighbor asked me if I went? Nope, I said. I just did my own protime this morning (3.1) Took my b/p myself 127/78..She said they had a mill to check your heart rate. Question, how long does it take for one's pulse rate to drop from 120-130 rate after being on a mill hooked up? Mine is usually 70 but when I walk and come back in..it's around 80-85 Should I walk harder to get it up more. It would scare me to death to come in and heart be beating that fast. Bonnie

Recovery time

Recovery time

Bonnie - time to recover to normal resting rate will vary from individual to individual. The better shape you are in, the faster you will get back to resting rate. I'm still in terrible shape and it takes me about five to eight minutes (i think) to get back down. My cardio, advised me that the thinking re excercise now is that you want to introduce some spurts into your excercise to get the old ticker going, then rest a little and let it calm down. I think they call this interval training. I'd check with your doc, however, before you experiment. What I try to do is to put some very fast walking spurts into my walk, then slow back down for awhile. It helps if you have a pulse meter, but this not mandatory. Chris
