OK Ross, I'll bite.
How about 17 members who debate whether testing a lightbulb at home is better than going to the hardware store to have it tested?

Regarding Light Blub Practice and Procedures

Regarding Light Blub Practice and Procedures

I do so agree with the above mentioned, however I would like to point out that noting the exact type of bulb to be replaced will truly be the determining factor on the correct procedure to apply to the task.

With new technology, we now have many choices for light-bulb replacement.

The newer ones have improved longevity both with filament improvement, and the use of convoluted fluorescent bulbs which fit into incandescent sockets. For more lumens per bulb, Halogen bulbs show improvement, however burn far too hot for some fixtures. Use of wattage lowering bulbs can improve your bottom line with little apparent loss of lumens to the naked eye.

You might also look into the use of ambient light which diminishes glare, however that comes at a price with reduced light hitting the working surface and causing a cave-like feeling in the given space. In addition, the parabolic fixtures used for ambient lighting cost more than older style egg crate fixtures.

There is also the cost of changing light-bulbs when deciding whether to go with incandescent or fluorescent fixtures.

We must also bear in mind that deciding whether to go with incandescent or fluorescent lighting will greatly affect any color scheme in the space. Incandescent will heighten warm tones, with "daylight" bulbs giving improved color rendition. Fluorescent typically washes out warm colors and heightens cool colors, also causing some brighter cool colors to "fluoresce" unnaturally. That is unless you are going to be using the much more expensive color-corrected lamps. The alternative is to alternate warm and cool fluorescent lamps within each fixture. Your Interior Designer should be made aware of any proposed change to your lighting system. You may need a whole new color scheme. (That will cost BIG time :D, with any luck).

All of this, of course has to be entered into graph form and then presented at a Facilities meeting, and then costs will have to be approved by the Accounting Department.

Plan on a 6 month lead time for final approval.

Just need one bit of clarification. . .

Just need one bit of clarification. . .

Ross, are you supervising the job in your capacity as administrator?

*pokes head into thread*

*silently wonders if the correct light bulb is being changed*

Isn't it the lightbulb in the lamp on the reading table in the Waiting Room that needs to be changed?

Or, wait.

No.

It's the lightbulb in the wall light by the magazine rack in the Waiting Room that needs to be replaced.

Or, was it?

Is it an indoor light bulb, a night light bulb or an outdoor light bulb? Outside, we use yellow mosquito/bug bulbs. That's in the front of the house. At the back door we have one of those that break if you touch them with your bare fingers.

Then there are pink ones or blue ones for better/quieter light inside the house - like Nancy says.

That reminds me of an episode of the Family guy where they were trying to prove that Peter is a good dad, and Lois came home and found Stewie's diaper in the light socket, and then Stewie came in with a light bulb sticking out of his behind growling, "Lois he did it again!" Anthen he makes the light bulb light up, and says, "Hmm, that's interesting." I love that show!

And don't forget..........

And don't forget..........

12 more or so to declare that they have absolutely no valuable input as to how to proceed with the lightbulb changing operation, but are sending love and prayers for all participants and request that you please update them when the procedure is done as they will be worrying until they receive the good word that the entire operation was a success!. :D

Forget it....

Forget it....

.....In Ireland we don't bother replacing the lightbulb.....we just suggest that everybody puts their hands in the air, cause we know the old proverb that 'many hands make light work.'

But of course there are so many 'bright sparks' on this forum that we don't really need a lightbulb to begin with...... :D :D :D

Cheers,
Billy

Bulb Selection: Incandescent or Fluorescent?

Bulb Selection: Incandescent or Fluorescent?

Dear Ross

Welcome to a great bunch of people - you'll find lots of help here! Many or most of us have replaced light bulbs. There are lots of opinions as to the best type of light bulb, but rest assured, you are among friends who have also fought off the darkness.

It's amazing, when you think about it, only a hundred years or so ago, you wouldn't have a light bulb to change, and would be doomed to lighting candles or oil lamps.
