My AVR involved 132 minutes of bypass time
and my aorta was "crossclamped" for 73 minutes.
Note: Radiation damage from prior Hodgkins Disease
treatment may account for some of this time and / or
working around my prior bypass grafts.

QUESTION:

What does "crossclamped" mean?

'AL'

Hi Al,

I think 'cross-clamp' and 'clamp' time are the same reference and the 'clamp' time is longer than the 'pump' time. Re: My 'clamp' time was 114 minutes and my'pump' time 91 minutes.

Anyone...correct me, please, if I'm mistaken about the reference being the same. Also...er uh.... about the prize...hmm....?? Maybe it'll have to be someone who has been on (or will be...Ross) the pump more than once...????

Errr.... this seems backwards. Shouldn't the pump time be the biggest number of all? Otherwise it implies they've turned off the pump while your heart is still isolated.

Hey folks,

Pump Time: 100 minutes
Cross-Clamp Time: 82 minutes.

Not bad, I thought! And honestly, I was more "pumpheaded" BEFORE the surgery than after, with all the stress....

And I believe the pump time is the longer. Cross-clamp has to due more with the actual time that the heart is stopped, from what I understand...!

Thanks Johnny...EeeGads..I was reading my report..It says..

The heart was arrested for a total of 91 minutes..didn't actually state 'pump' time...(lol..and I brought this subject up)..then it goes on to say the total clamp time was 114 minutes.

Thanks for pointing that out...maybe I forgot how to read, too...grin...just when I thought I understood what I was talking about....LOL!

I'd like to find out myself

I don't know how long I was on the pump, but I just got a bill from the anesthesiologists for 6hrs, 9min. I assume that's how long the surgery took. I had a mitral valve repair and BOTH leaflets needed repair, so the surgeon said it would "take a little longer" than normal. I see him next week for a post-op check and I'll ask him. I'm not sure I understand the whole "pumphead" thing though. I did notice it was sometimes hard to come up with the right words for things the first couple of days after surgery... nothing since then though. Jean
