I've always been prone to bruising, so when my INR gets high, I get some pretty large bruises. I've also had spontaneous nosebleeds and bleeding from my ear on occasion. Can't remember the INR, but it wouldn't really matter because it was measured on a Coaguchek, and they're not accurate at high readings. It seems like I had a result of a veinous INR over 10 once (right after the surgery while I was having pericarditis and effusion) - doctor called at 6:00 a.m. on a Saturday to make sure I wasn't bleeding from anywhere. He told me to eat plenty of Vitamin K and lay off the Coumadin for a day. That worked. I've said before that my doctor is very conservative in his treatment and it hasn't gotten me in trouble yet.

We'll be glad to send you our addresses. :p Now, let's have another game. :D How about, how long will you live without taking coumadin for a valve replacement. (Mech)..I win..I know, it's that guy in India.. :D Bonnie

Back last June mine was in the 29.4 and I fell and the blood all pooled in my foot. Went to the ER twice finally I had to tell them what to do. It was a good thing I fell on my foot and not my head or I wouldn't be writing this. I still have a ugly scar on my foot and it took 3mo for it to heal. The ER Dr. blamed the PCP on call. But I told them to call the cardiologist but they didn't. He said, they should have never sent me home if it was over 10. He was not happy about it and wanted names so he could kick a!!!!!!

I know the guy in India has me beat, but I went three months without any anticoagulants until they removed my mechanical valve. Talk about being paranaoid, I was a wreck! I'm glad that is over with.................:)
