More then one person has asked me what I thought about Hotbar and Incredimail, but I can't remember who it was. (Pumphead!) Anyway here is something that you might find interesting about Hotbar.

Incredimail at this point seems to be fine. I suspect possible security problems, but nothing I can prove. It's by far a safer bet then hotbar.

I tried to put this on my PC last week then changed my mind so decided to delete it

it added another 3 programs which i did not want

now each time I start my computer up i have a message from them saying i need to reinstall

I cannot seem to get rid of the thing

Jan

Jan I downloaded it, installed it and deleted it just to see what all took place. I took a registry shot before and after. The before shot showed 8792 changes made. After only 106. I then went into my regcleaner and deleted another 113 keys related to it and then ran regedit to see how many more got missed. I gave up! There are too many left overs so I reverted my drive back before install.

To anyone contemplating Incredimail-DO NOT DO IT! You will never get rid of everything it leaves in your registry. The only solution I see is a format and reinstall of your Operating system.

Thank you Jan for the heads up on this one! I'm sorry that you had to have the bad thing happen to arouse my curiosity to check it out.

ad-ware

ad-ware

I downloaded incredimail a couple of weeks ago and had a lot of pop up ads. My brother in-law came over and got a program on the INTERNET that took a lot of the ads off my computer. First you have to download the ad-ware program which is at the site www.downloads.com and go to the Personal Tech tab then scroll down to Internet at the bottom and click on Most Popular then go to #4 Ad-ware. Download this and then run it to get the unwanted ads. I feel it is wonderful and it's free. So I run the ad-ware on my computer and it picks up the ads and pop-ups and then I can quarantined them. I haven't had to much since we installed this program. After we got the ad-ware installed we then went to add and install programs and deleted the incredimail. Good luck and I hope that this works for you and anyone else that uses it.

Or you can do the one click shopping from here:
http://www.lavasoft.nu/support/download/ Scroll about half way down the page to the free standard edition.

It won't get rid of all the registry entries though. Nothing will outside of manually taking a week off of work and driving yourself nuts deleting registry entries or format and reinstall.

Ross,
I was one who asked you and I'm glad I did.
I think I'll just keep things as they are.
Thanks for the tips.

One thing may work, export a copy of your registry before you install. If your not happy with it, you can always import the good copy of your registry minus 8792 changes made to it. The other thing would be, if your using Windows ME or XP, using system restore if you can go back that far. That is the only thing I can come up with.

Norton Clean Sweep has a tool that scans the registry and safe cleans it, also several tools for purging partial leftover programs, orphan stuff and duplicate things. It also allows you to save the things you delete in caes you have to reinstall.

Maybe that would help.

Thank you for all the advice,

I have printed it off and when my son comes to visit on Sunday he will have a go at sorting the problem

I am not computer literate, in fact i am computer illiterate

cheers
