Hi All,
I just wanted to send a quick update to let you all know that I am now home and doing well. My surgery went very well. Dr. Sabik was able to repair my mitral valve and so most likely (95% sure) will never need another valve surgery (knock on wood). What a relief!

I was in the hospital for 5 days. There were a few scares in the hospital (periocardritis, leak in my chest tube and possibly having to go back in to fix my sternum), but all ended well and we all returned home for Thanksgiving. It was one of the most thankful Thanksgiving I've ever had.

Recovery has been going well. I've been able to sleep pretty well, which has been a relief since I'm a side/stomach sleeper. I've been able to decrease my pain meds and have been able to walkfor increasingly longer periods of time. I do get tired, but overall feel very well.

I couldn't have made it without the help of my husband and family. They have been by my side through it all. I don't know how I'll ever thank them for all that they have done for me. Whenever I've needed anything they've been right there. My Mom has stayed with me this week while my husband went back to work. We've had a great time walking the mall and just spending time together.

Thank you all for your thoughts and prayers. It is so relieving to be on the other side of the mountain.

Best to you all,

Heather

Heather,

It's always great to hear good news! I am so glad that you are doing well, and I wish you all the best in your recovery in the coming weeks. Remember to take it easy and do what the doctor tells you! Good Luck!

Welcome home from a former neighbor (I lived in Milan for a couple of years). Congratulations on a successful repair too!

Wonderful news. A successful mitral repair is the best outcome. Hoping you have continued progress in getting back to normal, and a great holiday with your fixed valve!!
